UPDATE (5/23): Just as we all thought, Josh Hamilton in his 1st at bat since coming off the DL hits a solo home run...and now Nelson Cruz crushes a 2-run homer!
The Texas Rangers will activate both Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz off the DL for Monday nights game against the Chicago White Sox. Cruz has been out with a strained right quad since May 4th and was hitting only .219 but did hit 7 home runs and drove in 19 rbi's through the first 30 games. Hamilton has been out since April 12th with a broken arm after making a head first slide into home plate.
According to ESPN the Rangers are 14-21 minus Hamilton and 7-9 with Cruz out of the lineup. The offense has really struggled scoring runs without both Hamilton and Cruz, but having these guys back will really boost the value of guys like Michael Young and Adrian Beltre, as they provide protection in the lineup.
Even without their two most powerful bats, the Rangers still stand atop the AL West at 24-23 just a half game over the Angels, 1.5 over the Mariners and 2 games over the Athletics in a very tight division. However with Hamilton and Cruz coming back the Rangers now have the tools to possibly run away with the division.
