Cleveland Indians - Fantasy Fillers

Hitters:
Fantasy favorite Carlos Santana (89% owned Yahoo) has struggled mightily hitting just .221 at the break.  The offense has been powered by Shin-Soo Choo (90%) and Michael Brantley in the outfield and Asdrubal Cabrera (96%) and Jason Kipnis(92%) in the infield.
Michael Brantley (26%) was acquired by the Indians in the C.C. Sabathia deal.  He has not disappointed and has eased the pain of missing Grady Sizemore for yet another season.  Brantley rarely strikes out (32) and has provided the Indians with 24 doubles, 3 triples and 3 home runs while driving in 42 runs and scoring 38 times.  Brantley was heating up before the break with 10 hits in last 27 ABs.

Pitchers:
The Indians staff provides fantasy owners with a couple of nice pitchers.  Zach McAllister (5%) has done a nice job over 7 starts this year earning 3 wins and owning a 3.40 ERA.  He has struck out 8 batters twice now, and has allowed 4+ earned runs just twice.  He shut out the Rays over 5.2 innings in his last start before the break.

Justin Masterson (57%) has had a strange season and has increased his K/9 to 7.3 , but has increased in BB/9 (3.7) at the same time leading to a 4.40 ERA.  That being said, he walked 34 batters over his first 11 starts, and since has walked just 13 in 7 starts, so he seems to have found the strike zone.  He did get shelled in his last start allowing 8 earned to the Rays, but he had allowed just 9 earned in his previous 6 starts.

Ubaldo Jimenez will never be the pitcher he was in 2010, but his last 7 starts have proved he is back to being a valuable fantasy pitcher.  He is just 3-3 over those 7 starts but has 44 strikeouts over 46 innings and allowed just 38 hits.  Another positive stat is that Jimenez pitches very well at home: 3.66 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and .212 BAA

Derek Lowe (17%) has proven that you don't need to strike guys out to earn W in the Majors.  He has allowed 50 earned runs to just 34 strike outs, yet has 8 Wins.  In certain leagues, Lowe has value.

Vinnie Pestano (23%) continues to dominate AL hitters and has allowed just 22 hits this season over 36 innings while striking out 43.  For his career now, the 27 year old has allowed just 67 hits in 103 innings while striking out 135.  He is good and can help your bullpen.
