QB Match-ups to Avoid
Matthew Stafford @ Eagles - In 5 games the Eagles defense has only allowed 5 passing TDs and have picked off opposing QBs 6 times. Stafford has had chances for some big games this year (Rams, Vikings, Titans) but has only thrown 3 TDs and 4 INTs in 4 games in 2012. Philly has arguably the best duo at cornerback with Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Dont expect Stafford to break out this week.
Tony Romo @ Ravens - Well the numbers aren't pretty for Romo with 5 TDs and 8 INTs in 2012, and coming off a 5 INT game there is a ton of pressure on the Cowboys quarterback. Romo looked great kicking off the season against the Giants but in his last 3 games he's only thrown 2 TDs with 7 INTs. Going against the Ravens, it's going to be a similar game for Romo as he will face a scary blitzing defense. Although the Ravens rank 23rd in pass defense, they've only surrendered 2 TDs and have picked off 6 passes. The Cowboys run game has been non-existent as they've failed to run for 50 yards as a team in their last 3. Romo will have to throw a lot and that means multiple turnovers.
Joe Flacco vs Cowboys - Dallas is currently ranked #1 against the pass as they've put together a dominant secondary with Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne. Flacco struggled against the Chiefs last week and we should see a lot of carries for Ray Rice as they'll look to get him going early. Hard to imagine Flacco has a big bounce back week against the Cowboys.
RB Match-ups to Avoid
Ahmad Bradshaw @ 49ers - Nobody runs on the 9ers in San Francisco. Sit him.
Stephen Jackson @ Miami - The Dolphins defense is shutting down the run this year only allowing 2.7 yards per carry and has allowed only 2 TDs on the ground. Stephen Jackson is not the same player he used to be a few seasons ago and has yet to score a TD this year. Not a good match-up this week.
Stevan Ridley @ Seahawks - Stevan Ridley has made a name for himself in New England after back to back 100+ yard games including 3 TDs. However this week he goes up against a tough Seattle defense who is only allowing 66 yards per game on the ground. Sharing carries with Woodhead, Bolden and even Shane Vereen this is not a good week to start Ridley. Expect Brady to throw more than usual as the Pats will have to shy away from the run.
WR Match-ups to Avoid
Victor Cruz @ 49ers - San Francisco has the most all around dominating defense in the NFL. Not only do they have a great D-Line, but they have great linebackers and a great secondary. If Nicks is out again this weekend, expect the 49ers to focus on shutting down Cruz.
Dwayne Bowe @ Buccaneers - It does not look like Matt Cassel will make the start this weekend after suffering an injury last week. Bowe and Cassel had a great chemistry and Bowe was putting up very solid numbers. If Brady Quinn makes the start in place of Cassel don't expect Bowe to put up good numbers as the Chiefs might give Jamaal Charles 40 carries this week.
Reggie Wayne @ Jets - Even though Wayne leads the NFL with 60 targets, 5th in the NFL with 36 catches, and third in the NFL with 506 yards, this could be a down week for Wayne. With Revis out for the year Wayne will be covered by Antonio Cromartie who did a great job on Andre Johnson, only allowing 1 catch for 15 yards on 6 targets. Cromartie also picked one of those passes off.
TE Match-ups to Avoid
Tony Gonzalez vs Raiders - After a huge 13 catch game, you can expect a lot less from Tony G this week against the Raiders. Matt Ryan had to throw the ball 52 times in a close game with the Redskins. I expect the Falcons to dominate the Raiders and get out to a big lead early, which means the Falcons will become a ground and pound team in the second half with Turner and Rodgers.
Owen Daniels vs Packers - Daniels is the leading receiver for the Texans but I don't expect him to put up big numbers against the Packers. Ben Tate should return for the Texans and you should see the Texans run the ball about 70% of the time to run the clock and keep Rodgers on the sidelines.
Antonio Gates vs Broncos - I have no idea what has happened to Antonio Gates but do not play him until you see a change. In 4 games he has yet to score a TD and has had three 3 reception games and one 4 reception game. Gates has yet to put up 60 yards in a game. Whether Gates is still hurt or not, he is underachieving big time in 2012.
DEF/ST Match-ups to Avoid
Seattle Seahawks vs Patriots - Seattle has played great defense all year and has yet to give up more than 20 points in a game this year. However they play the Patriots this week and Tom Brady is having a great season with 8 TDs and 1 INT. With Welker, Lloyd and Gronk, there are too many options for Brady.
San Diego Chargers vs Broncos - The Chargers defense looked great until they faced the Saints Sunday night and they got exposed. It doesn't get any easier this week going up against Peyton Manning who has 8 TDs and no INTs the last 3 weeks.
Houston Texans vs Packers - This is by far the biggest test for the Texans all year and the best offense they've faced. Losing Brian Cushing is a huge blow to this great defense and it might show Sunday Night. It's never a good thing when your defense plays Aaron Rodgers.
