Troy Tulowitzki looks like he wont avoid a DL stint this time around. Tulo had been on fire over the past week as well, raising his average from .262 to over .285 in the past 10 games.

Jered Weaver Watch: 15-Day DL
UPDATE: A trip to the 15-Day DL is actually good news(especially compared to Roy Halladay). The MRI revealed inflammation and a strain in Weaver's back.
Jered Weaver left tonight's start against the Yankees after an apparent lower back injury. Weaver threw just 12 pitches and recorded no outs before failing to be able to throw a warm up pitch. More to follow.

Roy Halladay Watch: Out for 6-8 Weeks
UPDATE: Roy Halladay is out for the next 6-8 weeks with a shoulder strain. Obviously the last thing Phillies fans and fantasy owners wanted to hear. Let us know how you plan on replacing Doc and we will let you know if that is the right move!
Doc Halladay was removed the Phillies game after 2 innings of work after allowing a grand slam in the first. Rumor has it that it was just a precautionary move, but fantasy owners and Philly fans should be VERY worried.

Carlos Santana Watch: Placed on the 7 Day DL
The Indians could be without their top two hitter in Carlos Santana in Asdrubal Cabrera for the rest of the weekend. Shortly after Cabrera left with a hamstring injury, Santana took a foul ball off his catchers mask and had to leave the game. He will be tested for a concussion.

Asdrubal Cabrera Watch: Left Game with Hamstring Tightness
Asdrubal Cabrera left the Indians game against the White Sox in the 6th inning after his hamstring tightened up. Be sure to keep it locked here in the morning for the latest updates on Cabrera's status for the rest of the weekend and potential DL stint.
Fantasy Baseball Week 8 (5/21 - 5/27)
5/25 - Emilio Bonifacio will miss the next 4-6 weeks after thumb surgery. The Miami Marlins originally placed him on the DL with just a sprain so this is suprising news for fantasy owners. In an attempt to replace his stolen bases, Jordan Schafer has 13 steals and is still just 46% owned in Yahoo leagues.
The Detroit Tigers have finally placed Austin Jackson on the 15-Day DL with an abdominal strain. He has not played since May 16 so AJax should be back as early as June 1.
5/22 - Kevin Youkilis IS in the Red Sox lineup tonight and will play first base. This means that Adrian Gonzalez will be manning Right Field while rookie Will Middlebrooks gets to stay at third.
Miguel Montero left the Diamondbacks game last night after tweaking his groin. He is currently listed Day-to-Day and obviously will sit out the next couple of games. Fix your lineups accordingly!
Interleague play is over and the American League once again proved that they are the dominate league going 24-18 this weekend.

RISPy Business – What are teams doing with Runners In Scoring Position?
There has been a lot of talk lately about the Yanks struggles with runners in scoring position. Wallace Matthews in his Rapid Reaction blog on ESPNNewYork.com wrote about last night’s Yankee 3-2 win over the Royals. Dewayne Wise‘s bunt single in the fifth broke an 0-for-16 stretch by the Yankees w/RISP. Derek Jeter‘s opposite-field RBI single with the bases loaded was the first bases-loaded hit for the Yankees since Robby Cano’s grand slam on May 6, off the same pitcher, Luke Hochevar. But, as we reach the quarter-pole of the 2012 season we have a pretty good sense as to how teams are doing in this critical statistic.

Paul Konerko Watch: Hit in Face With Pitch
UPDATE: Konerko IS in tonight's lineup
The Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Cubs faced off today in a day game featuring cross town rivals at historic Wrigley Field. After hitting a home run in the 1st inning, his 9th, Paul Konerko's next at bat ended with a pitch that hit him near the eye. In retaliation the White Sox Phil Humber attempted to hit Bryan LaHair but failed. Konerko has left the game and an update has yet to be given but Konerko owners should be worried.
Here is video of Konerko getting hit in the face with a fastball from Jeff Samardzija

Ryan Braun Watch: Right Groin Tightness
UPDATE: Braun IS in tonight's lineup.
What was initially thought of as an achilles injury turns out to be groin tightness. Braun left the game in extra innings last night so more news should come out today regarding the severity. This is not the first time he has had groin issues:

Looking Back: How Good Was Lance Berkman?
Ever wonder why Lance Berkman is called "The Big Puma" ?
On June 3, 1997, the Houston Astros drafted Lance Berkman in the 1st round, 16th overall. He signed the next day and played for just that franchise until July 31, 2010 when he was traded to the Yankees for Mark Melancon and Jimmy Paredes. In between those seasons, Lance Berkman compiled TONS of stats and appeared in 5 All-Star Games.
Before the 2006 season started, in an interview with a local Houston sports radio station, Lance joked "I'm more like a puma so I'm not sure why people call me Fat Elvis." Hosts, John Granato and Lance Zierlein, ran with the moniker and Houston fans and media latched onto "The Big Puma."It has been confirmed that Lance Berkman has a Torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season and will most likely end the Big Puma's career. It has been a terrible year for ACL injuries in all sports and this is the second one in the MLB that could be career ending (see Mariano Rivera).

Fantasy Baseball Week 7 (5/14 - 5/20)
5/20 - The Oakland Athletics have placed Brandon McCarthy on the 15-Day DL with a strained shoulder.
The Miami Marlins have placed Emilio Bonifacio on the 15-Day DL with a sprained left thumb. Bonifacio has been underachieving most of the season, but recently had his average up to .271 (from .233 in just 8 games). Bonifacio is owned in 90% of Yahoo leagues so owners will need to add players like Gregor Blanco (7%) or Daniel Nava (11%) who have been top 10 outfielders over the past week, or Andy Dirks (37%) who has been a top 5 outfielder the past two weeks. Either way you choose to go, Bonifacio still has the biggest upset over the course of the remainder of the season
St. Louis Cardinals 1B Lance Berkman left yesterdays game after an apparent knee injury. It was a non contact injury but it seems another trip to the DL is coming soon. The Big Puma is owned in 91% of Yahoo leagues so he will clearly need to be replaced. At just 61% owned, Carlos Lee has been the hottest 1B available that is under 75% owned over the last 7 days. Adam LaRoche (70%) has been a top 1B over the past 2 weeks and has been swinging a hot stick all season.
5/18 - The Arizona Diamondbacks have activated Chris Young from the disabled list. He will play this weekend. Fix lineups accordingly!
Every team has an Interleague series this weekend except the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers.
NL teams playing in AL Parks:
Miami Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, Atlanta Braves, Arizona Diamondbacks
AL teams playing in NL Parks:
Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, Texas Rangers, Minnesota Twins, Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Angels, Oakland Athletics
5/16 - Justin Morneau has returned to the Minnesota Twins lineup. If you were not holding on to him during his DL stint, do NOT go out of your way to add him to your roster just yet.
UPDATE - Lawrie will be suspended just 4 games, but he will appeal.
The Philadelphia Phillies have placed pitcher Vance Worley on the 15-Day DL with elbow inflammation.
5/15 - The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed Matt Kemp on the 15-Day DL. Kemp had said that he did not want to do this but obviously it is in the best interest of the team, long term. Have no fear though as players miss games here and there all season long, so these will be ALL of Kemp's days off. Kemp had played in 399 straight games before last night.

- Brett Lawrie of the Toronto Blue Jays is going to be suspended. It is just a matter of when and for how long. Last night Lawrie thought he walked twice on back to back pitches, before being punched out by home plate umpire Bill Miller. Fernando Rodney was on the mound and I must say, both of those pitches were not even close. Lawrie exploded and ended up spiking his helmet off the ground, which then hit the umpire. Fantasy owners need to have a plan in place for when the suspension occurs because it might be for 5 or more games!

MLB Approves 2-3 Wild Card Format..Huh?
The MLB and its owners have approved a 2-3 Division Round format that will give the Wild Card 1-game playoff winner the first two games at their ballpark. It is said that this was approved to eliminate one travel day and that this will only take place this postseason, as it will revert back to the 2-2-1 format next year. But come on, seriously? A team wins 90+ games and then has to wait until a 1-game playoff game is over to know where they will travel to and potentially face a team that barely finished over .500 (‘im looking at the NL here)? But more importantly, is there even such a thing as home field advantage in baseball?
Since 2007, the Home team in the playoffs is 90-70. Clearly there is such thing as Home Field Advantage in the MLB.

Get to Know Him - Josh Reddick
On December 28, 2011 the Boston Red Sox acquired Andrew Bailey and Ryan Sweeney from the Oakland Athletics. In return they sent Josh Reddick and Miles Head to Oakland. It was a deal that made sense for both clubs at the time, but Oakland is currently reaping all the benefits with Josh Reddick. In 36 games and 144 ABs, Reddick has 41 hits (.285 avg) including 9 HR, 8 doubles, a triple, 20 RBI and 25 runs scored. Those numbers make Josh Reddick a top 15 OF. But should Oakland Athletics fans and fantasy owners be surprised by Reddick's breakout performance?

Top 15 Hitters and Pitchers Less Than 75% Owned

How fantasy points are scored:
Hitters:
Pitchers:
* - Top 25 overall
** - Top 50 overall
Hitters - Josh Reddick has been on a tear as of late and even I added him in my leagues. If he is still available I would suggest adding him and taking advantage of the hot stick. Long term though, Alejandro De Aza is a better bet.
Pitchers - With the run support that St. Louis is giving its starting pitching, Jake Westbrook seems destined for 12-15 wins. If you league does not count strikeouts, or you have enough from your other pitchers, Westbrook is a great addition to your team.

NBA Playoffs - NBA 2k12 Edition (Bulls/76ers)
Bulls @ 76ers Game 6
76ers 85 Bulls 69
Facing elimination on the road in the playoffs is tough enough, but its extremely difficult when your missing the leagues reigning MVP and your starting center. With Rose and Noah out, the Bulls will need just about everyone to step up and have a big game if they want to go back home for a game 7 and keep their season alive.
For Chicago, their season will come to an end tonight. They were not able to get anything going offensively as the Philadelphia defense was great. The 76ers jumped out to a early 7 point lead as they led after the first quarter 23-16. They increased their lead to 12 as they went into halftime up 42-30. Chicago cut the lead to 10 going into the fourth 58-48 but Philadelphia ran away with the game in the fourth as they go on to win 85-69 and advance to the second round of the NBA playoffs and the Bulls season ends with disappointment as injuries depleted their roster and championship hopes.
Lou Williams was great off the bench leading the scoring with 28 points (8-17, 3-7 3pt, 9-13 ft) and he pulled down 6 rebounds. Evan Turner had a double double with 13 points (5-16, 3-4 ft) and 10 rebounds. Jrue Holiday had 13 points (4-8, 1-1 3pt, 4-6 ft) 2 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. Andre Iguodala had a double double with 10 points (4-7, 1-2 3pt, 1-4 ft), 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and a block. Elton Brand had 8 points (3-6, 2-2 ft), 11 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 blocks. As a team Philly shot 39% from the field (29-75, 5-12 3pt) and were 22-35 from the foul line. They pulled down 18 offensive rebounds which led to a lot of 2nd chance points.
Richard Hamilton's 12 points (6-16, 0-3 3pt) led the Bulls, as nobody could get into a rhythm offensively. Carlos Boozer finished with a double double scoring 11 points (4-13, 3-7 ft), pulling down 11 rebounds, 4 assists, a block and a steal. Taj Gibson off the bench had 10 points (5-9) with 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks and 2 steals. CJ Watson scored 10 points (4-8, 2-4 ft). Omir Asik had 7 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks. Luol Deng's struggles continued as he scored 7 points on 3-10 shooting, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.

NBA Playoffs - NBA 2k12 Edition (Grizzlies/Clippers)
Clippers @ Grizzlies Game 5
Clippers 103 Grizzlies 95
With the series tied up at 2 games a piece, the winner of game 5 will really take control of the series and put a lot of pressure on the losing team, as they'll be facing elimination.
Through the first three quarters it looked like the Grizzlies were uninterested in playing as the Clippers totally dominated every aspect of the game. It was 33-16 at the end of the first and 57-40 at half. After a big third quarter the Clippers increased their lead to 25, 84-59. The Grizzlies refused to go out without a fight as they surged in the 4th quarter, out scoring the Clippers 36-19 and cutting the lead to 4 before running out of time and losing 103-95 and are now facing elimination.

NBA Playoffs - NBA 2k12 Edition (Lakers/Nuggets)
Nuggets @ Lakers Game 5
Lakers 94 Nuggets 82
Down 3-1, it doesn't look good for Denver as they head to Los Angeles to play the Lakers in an elimination game. The Lakers and Celtics are a combined 58-1 in series when they lead 3-1 in a best of 7 series. With those odds and the fact you never want to play the Lakers in LA, the Nuggets season might come to an end tonight.
Denver came out strong in the first to take a 23-18 lead but the Lakers played excellent defense in the second quarter only allowing the Nuggets to score 11 points as the Lakers jump out to a 47-34 halftime lead. After the third the Nuggets cut the deficit to 67-60 but the Lakers would pull away in the 4th after Kobe hit back to back 3 pointers late in the fourth as the Lakers win 94-82 and advance to play the Oklahoma City Thunder in round 2.

NBA Playoffs - NBA 2k12 Edition (Celtics/Hawks)
Celtics @ Hawks Game 5
Celtics 101 Hawks 90
Despite being down 3-1 in the series, things were looking up for the Hawks, they were home, and they were healthy, having a starting lineup with Joe Johnson, Josh Smith and Al Horford together for the first time in a LONG time. However it seemed as if Joe Johnson was the only one who showed up for the Hawks as he was the only Atlanta player to score in double figures as the Celtics run away with game 5 on the road 101-90 and advance on to the second round of the NBA playoffs.
The Hawks looked lost in the first quarter as they only put up 10 points and trailed by 9 early in the game. After a better second quarter, it was Boston 41 Atlanta 33 at half. The Celtics could not miss in the third quarter as they put up 34 points and took a 75-59 lead into the fourth and hold on for the 11 point win 101-90.

NBA Playoffs - NBA 2k12 Edition (Pacers/Magic)
Magic @ Pacers Game 5
Pacers 98 Magic 91
Facing elimination on the road, the Magic knew it would be a struggle to pull out a win to extend the series. They would need everyone to be playing at the top of their game but unfortunately for Orlando many of their players had an off day shooting the ball as they fall to the Pacers 98-91 and get eliminated from the NBA playoffs.
Neither team played any defense in the first quarter as the Pacers took a 31-29 lead. The Magic kept up with the Pacers as they trailed by 1 going into halftime, 53-52. Both teams came out sluggish in the third as the Pacers outscored the Magic 18-17 and took a 71-69 lead to the fourth before holding onto a 7 point victory.

NBA Playoffs - NBA 2k12 Edition (Spurs/Jazz)
Spurs @ Jazz Game 4
Spurs 101 Jazz 80
With their backs against the wall, the Jazz looked to extend the series as well as their season in front of the hometown fans. However that wouldn't happen because the Spurs are playing the best basketball in the NBA and have been for some time now. With too many weapons the Spurs cruised to a 21 point victory and completed the sweep, moving on to the second round of the playoffs.
The Spurs outscored the Jazz in every quarter of this game, and it was a double digit game basically as soon as the second quarter started. At the end of the first, the Spurs led 25-17 before taking a 47-35 lead at half. After three quarters it was 70-55 and the final score was 101-80.

Jayson Werth Watch: Wrist Surgery - Out at least 12 weeks
Jayson Werth broke his wrist pretty badly sliding while attempting to make a catch on Sunday Night Baseball. He walked off the field holding the wrist and the replay did NOT look good for Werth owners. Cameron Maybin (67% owned Yahoo) has been swinging the hottest bat over the past week going 7 for 17 with 5 runs scored, 2 doubles, 3 RBI, 6 BB and 5 SBs. Alejandro De Aza is the best overall OF available at just 54% owned, he has been the 17th best OF all season long. How do you plan on replacing Werth?
“It’s a clean break,” Washington manager Davey Johnson said after the Nationals’ 9-3 loss. “He’s going to be out for a while.” - Washington PostFor those of you who want to witness the injury for yourself, here is the replay
Top 15 Hitters and Pitchers less than 75% Owned
It might be early in the season, but there have plenty of trips to the DL already and many players have been disappointing. If you are looking to fix your roster, take a look at these players first. They are the top 15 hitters and pitchers that are less than 75% owned in Yahoo leagues.
How fantasy points are scored:

Batters - Mike Moustakas is the best player on this list. If you have the opportunity to add him to your roster, you should. It is nice to see veterans Adam Dunn and Rafael Furcal having great seasons after struggling last year. Adam Dunn is tearing it up right now and you can say it is safe to assume he will slow down soon, but take advantage of the power while you can! Alejandro de Aza is a better add than Cameron Maybin, but if de Aza is gone, Maybin will absolutely help your team.
Pitchers - I would continue to stay away from the Oakland A's pitchers. Jason Hammel and Chris Capuano are the top two on here to go after.

NBA Playoffs - NBA 2k12 Edition (Heat/Knicks)
Heat @ Knicks Game 4
Heat 106 Knicks 84
Heat 106 Knicks 84
No team has ever come back from 3-0 in the history of the NBA playoffs and we don’t expect the first time to happen with the Knicks upsetting the Heat, arguably the most dominant team in the NBA. Down 3-0 and their season hanging on by a thread, the Knicks did not feel the need to bring back Amare Stoudemire or Jeremy Lin for game 4.

NBA Playoffs - NBA 2k12 Edition (Thunder/Mavericks)
Thunder @ Mavericks Game 4
Thunder 104 Mavericks 92
No team has ever come back 3-0 in an NBA playoffs before and there is no way the Mavericks can do it against a great Oklahoma City Thunder team. I feel like a broken record but it was too much Kevin Durant for the Mavs to handle in game 4, as the Thunder complete the sweep of the Mavs and move onto the second round of the playoffs after a 104-92 win.
The Thunder made a statement right away, scoring 34 in the first and then took a 56-43 lead at half. Dallas showed some life in the third as they made a run to cut the Thunder lead to 72-68 heading to the fourth, but Kevin Durant took complete control of the game as he finished with 44 points and the Thunder win the game 104-92 and the series 4-0.

Fantasy Baseball Week 5 (4/30 - 5/6)
5/4 - Chicago Cubs Carlos Marmol (71% owned Yahoo) has been removed of his Closer duties. It is now up to James Russell (4%) and Rafael Dolis (9%). Based on stats I would argue that Russell deserves the first shot. With half the innings he has twice the strikeouts and a nice 0.00 ERA. If you are Dale Sveum who do you let close?
The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed Bobby Abreu. Abreu was recently released by the Los Angeles Angels. Juan Rivers is the LF at the moment, but he has a .175/.375 split against right and left handed pitching. Clearly Abreu should see plenty of playing time against right handed pitching.
The New York Yankees Closer, Mariano Rivera, has been diagnosed with a Torn ACL. His season is finished and most likely his career is too. He injured himself shagging fly balls during batting practice in Kansas City. David Robertson seems to be the favorite to get the closer role but Rafael Soriano might get an opportunity as well.
The video is priceless - http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=21128441&topic_id=8878548&c_id=mlb&tcid=vpp_copy_21128441&v=3
ARod's reaction, the multiple camera angles, fly balls still flying overhead as they attempt to get Rivera in the cart, Girardi beaing out hustled to the warning track by a guy with a beer belly..amazing camera work.
5/3 - Boston Red Sox 3B Kevin Youkilis has landed on the 15-Day DL, retroactive to Sunday April 29. The stiffness in his back that has kept him out of games since Saturday April 28 is what is landing him on the DL. If you are looking to add a player Chase Headley tops the list of eligible 3B and is just 68% owned in Yahoo leagues. After him Chris Davis (56%) and Mike Moustakas(71%) are you best bets. Chris Johnson of the Astros (5%) is there too but his 2 HRs and 6 RBI against the Mets the other day have boosted his stats to make him appear better then he has been.
5/2 - Milwaukee Brewers 1B Mat Gamel will miss the remainder of the season with a Torn ACL.
Johnny Damon is in the Cleveland Indians lineup tonight, batting leadoff
5/1 - New York Yankees Nick Swisher will miss this week due to a hamstring injury. It does not look like a DL stint is likely

Division Leaders to start the week:
AL East - Orioles/Rays
AL Central - Indians
AL West - Rangers
NL East - Braves/Nationals
NL Central - Cardinals
NL West - Dodgers

Looking Back: How Good Was Mariano Rivera?
On February 17, 1990, the New York Yankees signed a 21 year old Panamanian free agent by the name of Mariano Rivera. He made it to the Bigs in 1995 appearing in 19 games, starting 10 of them and finishing two. In the first round of the Playoffs against the Seattle Mariners, Rivera made 3 appearances out of the bullpen and allowed just 3 hits over 5 innings while striking out 8 batters. The Yankees lost that series.

Pablo Sandoval Watch: Fractured Hamate Bone, Out 4-6 Weeks
Sandoval owners, who are you looking at to replace him? Chris Johnson, Chris Davis, Mike Moustakas, Conor Gillaspie or Will Middlebrooks?
UPDATE: Surgery is set for Friday. Conor Gillaspie has been called up and will play third base for the Giants. Gillaspie is currently the 29th best AAA hitter.
It was April 30, 2011 that he broke the hamate bone in his right hand. He did not play in the Majors again until June 14. This time he fractured the hamate bone in his left hand.

Evan Longoria Watch: Partial Hamstring Tear, Out 4-8 Weeks
Looks like Evan Longoria could land on the Dl as he left last night's contest with some soreness behind his left knee. As we wait for MRI results, owners should be looking for a replacement. Chase Headley (71% owned Yahoo) and Mike Moustakas (68%) are your two best options.
Justin Morneau Watch: Seeing Hand Specialist
It has not been a good couple of days for Justin Morneau. Since his 2 HR game against the Yankees on April 18, Justin's average has dropped from .279 to .230, with just 5 hits in 9 games. Hopefully, his wrist is the reason for this slump and he will recover and get to be being Justin Morneau. But for now, look elsewhere for first base help. Adam LaRoche (54% owned Yahoo) and Adam Dunn (65%) are your two best options.
