Fantasy Baseball Week 13 (6/25-7/1)

6/27 - The New York Yankees have placed Pitcher C.C. Sabathia on the 15-Day DL with a groin strain.  It is just a grade 1 strain, so he should come back as soon as he is allowed to, and should just miss 2 starts. 6/25 - The Philadelphia Phillies will get 2B Chase Utley (66% owned Yahoo) back on Wednesday.  ADD TO ROSTER AT YOUR OWN RISK. The Chicago Cubs are promoting 1B Anthony Rizzo (20% owned Yahoo) and the Arizona Diamondbacks will have SP Trevor Bauer (28%) make his MLB debut this week.  Both are ready to help your fantasy team right away and if they are still available in your league, they are worth roster spots. Trading season is officially open as the Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox have agreed to swap 3B Kevin Youkilis for Zach Stewart and Brent Lillibridge.  I am sure you are just as surprised as we are that the Pirates did not swoop in and add a veteran to their team.  Youk could have solidified a young struggling offense and help support a dominate pitching staf

Going Up and Coming Down

We are reaching the half way point of the 2012 MLB season and with so many surprising players off to hot starts and too many early round draft picks struggling, we have compiled a list of players who's stats should be going up and matched them with a player at their position who's stats should be coming down in the near future. Going Up Coming Down C Alex Avila Carlos Ruiz 1B Ike Davis Chris Davis 2B Rickie Weeks Aaron Hill 3B Kevin Youkilis Edwin Encarnacion SS Alexi Casilla Rafael Furcal OF J.D. Martinez Josh Reddick P Tim Lincecum Matt Harrison Catcher  Alex Avila - Before getting injured on June 5th Avila had raised his average to .250 from .222 in just 10 games.  Last summer he finished the season going 56 for 172 (.325).  If that is how he hits during the hot summer nights, Avila should finish the season with similar stats to last years breakout season of .295 19 HRs and 82 RBI. Carlos Ruiz - Chooch is on an absolute tear right now after hitting .418 f

Roto Think Tank - Evaluating a Player's Value: Trade Edition

The question is   specifically about   Alex Cobb , but I get this kind of query all the time during the regular season: Who would you consider a comparable value bat to Cobb in 5x5 AL only? The real question here is:   how do I figure out what Alex Cobb is worth in trade? For many of my Twitter followers, they want me to directly answer what hitter they should ask for in exchange for Alex Cobb. For me, that's a hard question to answer without knowing your league, how your categories are shaking out, and what your needs are. I try to give some guidelines as far as this goes, but generally speaking all I'm doing is making a very rough guess as to what Alex Cobb is worth in someone's league. If you're interested in learning how to fish as opposed to me handing you a fish, here are a number of different ways I look at a player's value. Since Cobb was the pitcher someone asked about, here is a step-by-step walkthrough of my thought process on Cobb. Follow Mike G

Brandon Beachy Watch: MRI Reveals Partial Tear

BAD BAD news for the Atlanta Braves, Brandon Beachy and fantasy owners.  This could lead to surgery that sidelines Beachy for months, or worse, Tommy John surgery.  Owners better have a solid plan in place just in case.  Beachy is set to meet with the infamous  Dr. James Andrews so we should know within the week what lies ahead for Beachy. Fantasy Baseball 2012 - Breakout Seasons

6/5 -Updates Last Season we loved the potential of the Rays players , with Matt Joyce, Desmond Jennings and Jeremy Hellickson making our list.  This season the Royals and Mariners dominate our list with 4 Royals and 3 Mariners making the cut. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia Boston Red Sox 6/5 - Salty leads all catchers with 10 home runs.  A .308 avg in May raised his season average up to .281 before an 0 for 8 start to June brought it back down to .265.  Jarrod will rank amongst the elite Catchers all season long and the quicker Carl Crawford and Jacoby Ellisbury return, the better for Saltalamacchia owners.  Salty has yet to have over 358 at bats in a season but he did manage to belt 16 home runs last season for the Red Sox.  Given the fact that Jason Varitek is now retired and Saltalamacchia is the everyday catcher for the Red Sox, it is almost a given that Jarrod will hit 20 home runs this season.  His average will probably hover around the .260 mark, but as a catcher you can live w
