Yovani Gallardo’s Combo Meal and Thursday’s Box Scores

Yovani Gallardo pitched a gem and hit a three run homer as the Brewers continue to roll. Justin Upton hit his league leading 9th home run.

Giants 2 v Brewers 7: Yovani Gallardo did it all, hitting a 3 run home run, pitched 6 innings, and surrendered only 1 run, while striking out 6. Ryan Braun and Jonathan Lucroy also hit home runs for the Brewers. Brandon Crawford hit a double and home run for the Giants, while Matt Cain got battered around: 6 IP and 7 ER (Milwaukee swept the series 3-0).

Rangers 2 v Cubs 6: Carlos Villanueva gave up two earned runs over 7 IP, giving up home runs to Ian Kinsler and Nelson Cruz. Anthony Rizzo and Alfonso Soriano hit home runs and David DeJesus added a double and a triple; the Cubs had 9 extra base hits. Alexi Ogando only lasted 2.1 innings, the shortest outing he has ever had as a starter. Note- Carlos Marmol pitched a perfect non-save ninth with two strikeouts(The series split 1-1).

Mets 3 v Rockies 11: Jonathan Niese notches a quality start, but the Mets bullpen imploded. Troy Tulowitski, Dexter Fowler, and Josh Rutledge hit home runs and Wilin Rosario registered his third stolen base.  (Colorado swept the series 3-0).

Tigers 0 v Mariners 2: Do not doubt Hisashi Iwakuma. He threw 6 innings of zero run ball against one of the best offenses in the league, giving up only three hits. Justin Verlander only gave up 2 ER and struck out 12, but his offense was unable to help him. Kyle Seager and Kendrys Morales belted doubles for the Mariners and Prince Fielder added one for the Tigers. Tom Wilhelmsen registered his 6th save (Detroit won the series 2-1).

Rays 4 v Orioles 6: Matt Wieters helps the Orioles shock the Rays with an extra innings grand slam. David Price avoided the loss but gave up 5 ER in 6 IP. Evan Longoria, Desmond Jennings, and Jose Molina all hit home runs for Tampa Bay. (Baltimore won the series 2-1).

Red Sox 6 v Indians 3: The speedy Mike Napoli hit his 7th triple of his career and Jon Lester pitched another gem as the Red Sox stay hot. Jacoby Ellsbury stole his seventh base and Dustin Pedroia swiped two. Carlos Santana added two hits for the Indians. (Boston swept the series 3-0).

Diamondbacks 6 v Yankees 2: The Diamondbacks score four in the 12th to avoid the sweep. Patrick Corbin pitched seven strong, but recorded a no decision.  Didi Gregorious hit a double and a home run in his first game as a Diamondback. (New York won the series 2-1).

Cardinals 4 v Phillies 3: Edward Mujica registered his first save of the season and may be the Cardinals new closer, as Boggs had plenty of rest. Adam Wainwright and Cole Hamels both pitched 7 innings and allowed 3 runs. (St Louis leads the series 1-0).

Braves 6 v Pirates 4: Evan Gattis hit a go-ahead home run in the 8th and Craig Kimbrel recorded his 7th save. Julio Teheran continued to be below-average, allowing 4 ER in 5 IP. Justin Upton hit his 9th home run of the season. (Atlanta leads the series 1-0).

White Sox 1 v Blue Jays 3: RA Dickey exited early with some tightness but he still managed to strikeout 7 batters in 6 IP. Chris Sale gave up 3 runs, two earned, and registered the loss. Casey Janssen pitched a perfect 9th for his 5th save. Rajai Davis hit a double and stole two bases. (The series split 2-2).

Marlins 1 v Reds 11: The youngster Jose Fernandez was roughed up by the Reds, allowing 5 earned runs over 4 IP. On the opposite side, Tony Cingrani looked sharp in his call-up striking out 8 and allowing only 1 run in 5 IP. Todd Fraziet hit his 5th home run of the year and Justin Ruggiano hit his second. (Cincinnati leads the series 1-0).
