Ok, thats a stretch, but the sweet swinging lefty leads the National League in home runs, with 17, and has hit 10 of them in the last two weeks! Last night Brown hit another bomb and added 2 other hits in a 7-2 Philllies victory over the Marlins, and raised his average to .291. Kyle Kendrick tossed a complete game 6 hitter, allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 5. He was our streaming pitcher of the day! Ben Revere and Erik Kratz also had multi hit games for the Phils. Marcell Ozuna continues to be the lone bright spot for the woeful Marlins, as he picked up his 16th RBI, but it will be fun to see a healthy Giancarlo Stanton in the lineup with him.
Mark Teixeira hit his first homer of the season, a grand slam, in a 7-4 Yankees victory over the Indians. He is now 2 for 12 with 8 strike outs! Both Justin Masterson and Andy Pettitte had poor starts, while Mariano Rivera saved his 20th game. Brett Gardner continues to have a nice season picking up 2 RBI and now has 23 on the year. Carlos Santana picked up his 14th double and drove in his 23rd and 24th RBI. Santana, Mike Aviles and Michael Bourn had multi hit games for the Indians, Bourn with 3 hits and scored twice
Kris Medlen pitched a gem for the Braves in a 7-2 victory over the Pirates. Medlen went 7 innings, allowed 7 hits and 1 unearned run while striking out 6 and walking none. A.J. Burnett was the losing pitcher for the Bucs and gave up 6 earned over 5 innings including 3 home runs to Brian McCann, Jason Heyward and Freddie Freeman, all two run dingers. McCann, Heyward and Chris Johnson had multi hit games for the Atlanta. Starling Marte, Gaby Sanchez and Clint Barmes did the same for Pittsburgh. Travis Snider struck out three times.
Joe Blanton continues to be the most unlucky pitcher in baseball. After pitching what might be the best start of his career, at least in recent memory, Blanton fell to 1-9 in a 2-1 loss to the Houston Astros, who just swept the Los Angeles Angels in a 4 game set. Blanton went 8 strong innings, striking out 11 'Stros and allowed just 3 hits yet his "powerful" Halos offense couldn't muster up the runs to support him. A Chris Carter solo shot and a sacrifice fly would be all Houston needed to complete the sweep IN LOS ANGELES. Erik Bedard picked up his first win of the season lasting 7 innings and Jose Veras got the save, #11. Carlos Pena was 0 for 3 with 3 strike outs. Mike Trout had two hits and the teams only RBI and continues to NOT be the reason why the Angels are struggling.
Kendrys Morales hit his 17th double of the season and Raul Ibanez hit his 10th home run to lead the Mariners to a win over the White Sox. Jason Bay decided to chip in by going 0 for 4 with 3 strike outs. Joe Saunders earned hsi 4th victory and Tom Wilhelmsen picked up his 13th save. John Danks fell to 0-2 for the Sox. Endy Chavez was the only player to have two hits in this quick game that last just 2 hours and 32 minutes.
A Todd Frazier RBI single and Jay Bruce two run homer would be the only runs scored in a 3-0 Reds win over the Rockies. Bronson Arroyo, who won his 6th game, was brilliant over 8 shutout innings and Aroldis Chapman got his 15th save striking out the side. Bruce and Frazier combined for 5 of the Reds 9 hits. Carlos Gonzalez had 2 of the Rockies 4 hits. The top of the Reds lineup, Shin-Soo Choo, Zack Cozart and Joey Votto, went 1 for 11 with 7 strike outs!
The Oakland Athletics used a 6 run 5th innings to beat the Brewers 10-2, lead by Coco Crisp and his 4 hits. Crisp hit his 14th double and 6th home run while John Jaso (2 RBI), Yoenis Cespedes, Jed Lowrie, Josh Donaldson and Josh Reddick followed him in the order with multi hit games and an RBI each. even the pitcher, Tommy Milone who improved to 6-5, had 2 hits for the A's who tallied 19 hits off Marco Estrada and the Brewers bullpen. Rickie Weeks tripled(home run was overruled via replay) and homered and drove in the only 2 runs for the Brew Crew.
The St. Louis Cardinals continue to just dominate their opponents, this time beating the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-1. Lance Lynn had yet another tremendous start and is now 8-1 on the season with a 2.76 ERA. Matt Carpenter and Carlos Beltran set the table for the Cards offensively going 6 for 10 out of the 1 and 2 slots of the lineup. Carpenter scored 3 times and Beltran had 3 RBI. Allen Craig, Yadier Molina and David Freese had multi hit games for the Birds as well. Gerardo Parra and Willie Bloomquist had two hits a piece for the DBacks.
Yasiel Puig made his major league debut for the Los Angeles Dogers last night and picked up two hits out of the leadoff spot. He also added an outfield assist, which turned out to be a game ending double play! The Dodgers won 2-1 over the Padres thanks to solo jacks from Adrian Gonzalez and Scott Van Slyke in the 1st and 2nd innings. Chase Headley had the lone RBI for the Padres. Brandon League earned his 12th save.
