There are just 9 games scheduled tonight in Major League Baseball and there are few favorable pitching matchups. The Atlanta Braves will send Ervin Santana to to hill tonight against the Philadelphia Phillies, and we like this matchup. Yes the Phillies just swept the Miami Marlins, but even just saying that sentence isn't impressive. Santana made his Braves debut against the New York Mets on April 9th and shut them out over 8 innings, striking out 6 and walking none.

The key to success will be figuring out how to get Chase Utley to make an out. The Phillies 2B is still hitting .500 and has 9 hits in his last 12 ABs. He drove in 4 of the Phillies 15 runs against the Marlins and scored 5 times. He has been their offense.  The Braves offense is heating up and if Santana walks away with a quality start, then the Braves should win this game.  Atlanta scored 23 runs in the 3 game sweep of the Washington Nationals, led by Justin Upton and Freddie Freeman.

Braves right-hander Ervin Santana was literally in the zone during his first start in an Atlanta uniform, setting a Major League record by firing 20 consecutive strikes to begin the game against the Mets on Wednesday. - MLB.com

Santana got 12 groundball outs in his first start, and just 5 line drives and 4 fly outs.  If he can keep the ball down, he can keep the ball in the park.  He relied on his fastball for 65% of his pitches against the Mets, and mixed in his slider (25%) and change-up (10%).  Over his career he goes to the slider 32% of the time, so expect a couple more of those tonight.
