Top 5 Backup RBs in Fantasy Football

Nowadays, it is more important than ever to have multiple RBs on both your fantasy football team, as well as your favorite NFL team. In fantasy, getting a backup RB late in drafts can be the reason you win your league. However, this is more prevalent in PPR leagues as Shane Vereen, Danny Woodhead and Darren Sproles are more Wide Receiver than Running Back. On average all 3 of those RBs are selected within the first 110 picks in fantasy football drafts and you can include Joique Bell & Fred Jackson as well.  These guys all prove valuable even though 4 of the 5 starters (LeSean McCoy, Reggie Bush, C.J. Spiller, & Ryan Mathews) are all top 40 picks.  Stevan Ridley's ADP sits in the mid 70s.

Averaging projections from Fantasy Pros, FFToolbox, Yahoo and ESPN, these were the top 5 projected fantasy point earners amongst teams depth chart RB2s.

Other Valuable Backup RBs

Lamar Miller - The Miami Dolphins signed Knowshon Moreno, but a knee injury has limited Moreno's offseason workouts.  Miller is going around the same time as Woodhead, and if Moreno missing action this season, can provide you with some nice value.  That is of course if the Dolphins figure out how to run the ball this year!

Bernard Pierce - For similar reasons as Miller, if Ray Rice missing any games due to suspension / just not being that good any more, Pierce could give you a lot for a 10th or 11th round pick.

Tre Mason - Who knows what Zac Stacy really is, I don't even think the St. Louis Rams do!  Last season the starting gig was handed to Daryl Richardson after the Pre Season and this season they drafted Mason.  Stacy did well for himself last year scoring 7 TDs, but with Sam Bradford healthy, there is now way any one running back see 250 carries in St. Louis.  Mason should be able to steal some carries and provide value in deeper leagues.
