With just 28 days left in the MLB regular season, fantasy baseball is quickly coming to an end.  Since the 2nd half started on July 18th, no team has been better than the Baltimore Orioles who own a 27-14 record, no hitter has been better than Victor Martinez and no pitcher has been better than Madison Bumgarner.

Even with the loss of Manny Machado, again, the Orioles just keep on winning.  Chris Davis has powered the offense with 9 second half home runs, despite his .169 BA.  Nelson Cruz has been swinging a similar stick, with 7 home runs and a .179 BA.  Adam Jones has hit 8 home runs for Baltimore since the break, and even though his average is just .252 over 41 games, he leads the team in RBI (27) and runs scored (25).  J.J. Hardy and Nick Markakis have been the steady bats in the lineup hitting .286 and .266 respectively.  Hardy has added 8 doubles and 6 home runs while scoring 20 and driving in 24 runs.  Markakis has set the table with 7 doubles and 5 home runs scoring 22 times but driving in just 12 runs.  Baltimore does not walk much, and their 351 strike outs is 3rd worst since the break behind the Cubs and Marlins.  It will be interesting to see if that style of play can win in the playoffs.  Chris Tillman has been the Ace of the Orioles staff over his 9 starts owning a 4-0 record with a 1.85 ERA over 58.1 innings pitched adding 48 strike outs.  Wei-Yin Chen has done well over 8 starts (5-1) with a 3.18 ERA, and 41K in 51 IP.

The Detroit Tigers have a 21-24 record since the All-Star break, and even after trading for David Price have struggled to keep pace with the Kansas City Royals in the American League Central and currently sit .5 game out of 1st place.  Victor Martinez has done everything in his power to keep the Tigers playoff dreams alive.  Martinez is hitting .325 over 45 games, and although he has just 13 XBH (7 2b, 6 HR), he has driven in 33 runs while scoring 27 times himself thanks to 24 base on balls.  Martinez has been great all year long, and currently ranks 13th overall in fantasy baseball, according to our scoring system.  His teammates have struggled to help VMart as Ian Kinsler is hitting just .233 in the 2nd half and Miguel Cabrera has just 16 RBI.  Torii Hunter has done his best with a .303 BA adding 10 doubles, a triple & 3 homers, but Nick Castellanos, J.D. Martinez and Rajai Davis are all hitting below .265, and Alex Avila owns a .203 avg since the break!

As usual, the San Francisco Giants are in the playoff hunt come September.  They are just 2.5 games behind the high priced Los Angeles Dodgers, own a NL Wild Card spot, and they can thank Madison Bumgarner for most of it.  Bumgarner has started 9 games, winning 6, and punched out 71 batters across 64 innings and owns a 1.97 ERA.  He has lowered his season ERA from 3.47 at the break to 2.97 thanks to 8 of 9 starts allowing 3 or less runs.  He even added double digit strike outs in 3 starts.  Good pitching has been contagious on the Giants, as Tim Hudson, Ryan Vogelsong, Jake Peavy and now Yusmeiro Petit have pitched very well in the second half.  Peavy (2.66), Hudson (2.96) and Vogelsong (3.42) all have ERA's under 3.50 and yet they are a combined 8-9.  It is no fault of the bats as Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval, Michael Morse, Gregor Blanco, Joe Panik and Angel Pagan are all hitting over .300!  Hunter Pence is hitting .294 and has been one of the best fantasy baseball players all season long, adding 8 double, 6 triples, 6 home runs, driving in 31 runs and scoring 28 himself.  Tim Lincecum has moved to the bullpen but continues to get rocked, allowing 9 runs (6 earned) over his last 4.2 innings pitched.
