It's a little ridiculous that I have to do a get to know him on the best relief pitcher in baseball this year. I'm not sure if it's because he plays for the Kansas City Royals or because he is not a closer, but regardless everyone should know who this guy is and know what he has done this season.

Wade Davis is pitching in his 6th MLB season, the first 4 of those with the Tampa Bay Rays. Before this season, Davis has mainly been a starting pitcher and an average one at best. However he has now found his niche pitching in late innings of meaningful baseball games.

Davis has pitched in 58 games this year and has been LIGHTS OUT! Just take a look at his stats for the year.

60.1 innings, 29 hits, 5 runs, 5 earned runs, 21 walks, 90 strike outs, 0.83 WHIP and a 0.75 ERA.

Those are high school numbers.

Not to mention he has not given up a home run in those 60.1 innings pitched, and he has only allowed two extra base hits, both doubles.

On April 23rd (his 10th appearance of the season) Davis had given up 4 earned runs through his first 10.1 innings pitched. Since then he has allowed just 1 run in 50 innings.

In month of May looked like this - 12 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 19 strike outs.

He just finished his August like this - 14 innings, 9 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 19 strike outs.

Davis is a huge reason why the Royals are in the playoff hunt because he doesn't allow teams to score late in games.
