Most fantasy football leagues will begin their playoffs come Week 14 and if you have already clinched a spot, or are battling for one this week, it is important to recognize matchups for the rest of the NFL season. Just like last year, Ryan Tannehill has been a very valuable fantasy QB option during the homestretch and has some pretty nice matchups going forward.  Unfortunately, most fantasy owners will lose a matchup with the New York Jets in Week 17.  Tannehill will get the Ravens, Patriots and Vikings in the fantasy playoffs, and while those are not great matchups, they are not terrible either!

Best Matcups

Drew Brees - vs Panthers, @ Bears, vs Falcons

  • Mark Sanchez picked apart the Panthers defense on Monday Night Football for 332 yards and 2 TDs.  Yeah, the butt fumble guy!  The Bears just allowed 106 points to Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers, in back to back losses separated by a BYE week and Josh McCown just threw for 351 yards in Week 12.  Matthew Stafford gained 390 passing yards and completed 2 TD to Megatron on Thanksgiving.  Brees completed 29 passes for 333 yards in the season opener with Atlanta, but scored just 1 TD.  4 of the last 6 QBs the Falcons faced scored twice.  The only guys not to were Brian Hoyer and Drew Stanton.  Just pray for a shootout because its Championship Sunday!

Matthew Stafford - vs Buccaneers, vs Vikings, @ Bears

  • 3 weeks in a row, prior to their BYE week, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees & Joe Flacco threw for 300+ yards.  The Bucs have been MUCH better as of late, but haven't faced great QBs; Teddy Bridgewater, Brian Hoyer, Matt Ryan, RGIII, Jay Cutler and Andy Dalton.  The Vikings held the Lions to just 17 points back in Week 6, but Calvin Johnson did not play in that contest.  The Lions also ran the ball 28 times that week.  5 of the last 6 weeks, Stafford has attempted at least 40 passes.  Bears: See above

Tony Romo - @ Bears, @ Eagles, vs Colts

  • Obviously, we are all concerned about his back injury, but Romo threw 7 TDs in his two starts. prior to Thanksgiving.  Against the Jaguars, Romo tossed 3 touchdowns and completed 20 of his 27 attempts for 246 yards. On Sunday Night Football in New York, Romo tossed 4 TDs against the Giants, picking up 275 yards along the way.  The Eagles have dominated bad offensive lines, sacking Cam Newton 9 times, Eli Manning and Ryan Nassib 8 times, Zach Mettenberger 5 times and Austin DavisRyan Fitzpatrick 4 times each.  They have just 8 sacks in their 6 other games.  The Cowboys offensive line has been great all season, but did allow 4 sacks on Thursday.  Every QB that has played against Philly has thrown for 2 or more touchdowns, except Manning and now Romo.  The matchup with the Colts looks great due to the 6 TD game from Ben Roethlisberger, but the Colts pass defense looked rather good in the weeks leading up to that contest.  Tom Brady let Jonas Gray run all over the Colts for 199 yards and 4 scores, but Brady tossed two TDs as well.  Colt McCoy just threw 3 touchdowns on the Colts and picked up 392 yards on 31 completions along the way.  Either way, all you can hope for is a shootout, because this is Championship Sunday!

Worst Matchups

Jay Cutler - vs Cowboys, vs Saints, vs Lions
Nick Foles / Mark Sanchez - vs Seahawks, vs Cowboys, @ Redskins
Drew Stanton - vs Chiefs, @ Rams, vs Seahawks
Derek Carr - vs 49ers, @ Chiefs, vs Bills

QB Streaming in the Playoffs?!

The New York Jets pass defense is so terrible, that this idea sounds reasonable.  In week 14, Teddy Bridgewater and the Minnesota Vikings offense have the privilege of padding their seasons stats, followed by Zach Mettenberger and the Tennessee Titans in Week 15.  Remember, Kyle Orton has now thrown for 438 yards & 6 TDs in 2 games against the Jets! Odds are though, that if you don't have a reliable QB by this point in the season, you won't be playing any playoff games.

Best Championship Weekend Matchups

If you are lucky enough to make it this far, and you own Tom Brady (@ Jets) or Matthew Stafford (@ Bears), you are the favorite to win your league!

Worst Championship Weekend Matchups

If you are lucky enough to make it this far, and you own Ben Roethlisberger (vs Chiefs) or Jay Cutler (vs Lions), it wouldn't be a terrible idea to have a backup plan!
