The Minnesota Vikings have claimed RB Ben Tate off waivers. Tate was waived by the Cleveland Browns yesterday. Tate will again be on a team with 2 other running backs, and have to fight for playing time, which was the reason he was frustrated in Cleveland. Very strange move by the Vikings, who have a young RB prospect in Jerick McKinnon, a decent back up in Matt Asiata, and presumably Adrian Peterson returning to the team next season, as he has been suspended for the remainder of this season.
McKinnon is averaging 4.9 yards per carry on 98 attempts this season, with 4 runs going 20+ yards, but has yet to score a touchdown. Asiata has 6 TDs on the year, scoring 3 touchdowns in 2 different games. This is a terrible fit for Ben Tate and can be dropped in all fantasy football leagues. Clearly this also makes McKinnon tough to own moving forward as we have no idea how much the Vikings ownership/coaching staff values this signing.
