Cam Newton was in a car accident yesterday and spent the night in hospital. He was diagnosed with two transverse process fractures. Newton has been released from the hospital, but the Carolina Panthers will start Derek Anderson at QB this Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is terrible news for Kelvin Benjamin and Greg Olsen owners still in the fantasy football playoffs.
Ironically enough, Anderson's only start this season came against the Bucs back in Week 1 and the Panthers won! Anderson connected on 24 of his 34 pass attempts gaining 240 yards and throwing 2 touchdowns. One was caught by Benjamin (6rec/92yds) and the other by Olsen (8rec/83yds). However, this is a different Tampa Bay Defense, that up until last week against Matthew Stafford, hadn't allowed a QB to throw multiple TDs in 5 of their last 6 games. That streak included games against Teddy Bridgewater, Matt Ryan, Robert Griffin III Jay Cutler and Andy Dalton. Guess who! Brian Hoyer was the lone QB to throw for multiple TDs and the only one to throw for more than 240 yards!
It will be tough to start Jonathan Stewart as well as Tampa will pretty much beg Anderson to throw the ball. Justin Forsett is the only RB to rush for 100 yards on the Bucs defense this season and he did that in Week 6. However, in the last 3 weeks, Matt Forte (2 rush) and Joique Bell (1 rush, 1 rec) have each scored twice on Tampa.
