A year after making major headlines when they traded slugger Prince Fielder to the Texas Rangers for Ian Kinsler, the Detroit Tigers are making noise for a second straight off season.
The Tigers have acquired power hitting (not to mention a laser for an arm) outfielder Yoenis Cespedes from the Boston Red Sox. Cespedes will essentially fill the hole that the Tigers were left with when Torii Hunter signed with the Twins.
Acquiring Cespedes adds another power hitter to the already dangerous Tigers lineup - joining Ian Kinsler, Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez and J.D. Martinez. Last season the Tigers were 9th in the MLB with 155 home runs but I can guarantee you that they'll be in the top 5 in 2015.
As of right now the 2015 Detroit Tigers lineup looks like this:
1. Ian Kinsler - 17 HRs
3. Miguel Cabrera - 25 HRs
4. Victor Martinez - 32 HR
5. J.D. Martinez - 23 HRs
6. Yoenis Cespedes - 22 HRs
7. Alex Avila - 11 HRs
8. Nick Castellanos - 11 HRs
9. Jose Iglesias - 4 HRs
Not too many teams can say they can get double digit home runs from 8 of their 9 positions. It's going to be tough for any pitcher to have successful outings against Detroit in 2015.
Plus with all the runs they'll be scoring, they should have no problem winning games with a pitching rotation of David Price, Justin Verlander, Anibal Sanchez, Alfredo Simon and Shane Greene.
Good luck to the rest of the AL Central.
