The Los Angeles Dodgers traded Dee Gordon to the Miami Marlins for Andrew Heaney, and the flipped the young pitcher to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for Howie Kendrick. Kendrick will play 2B opposite Jimmy Rollins at SS. The Angels then traded for Josh Rutledge of the Colorado Rockies to fill the void at 2B. This has been one wild MLB Winter Meetings!
Kendrick came up at the age of 22 and spent the last 9 seasons with the Angels. He is a career .292 hitter, and hit 30 doubles for the 4th time in 5 seasons last year, tying his career high with 75 RBI. This is a great trade for the Dodgers, and fantasy owners, although being in a lineup with Mike Trout, Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton is equally as good. Adrian Gonzalez led the MLB in RBI last season so Kendrick could see a nice uptick in runs scored, somewhere in the 90s, something he has never done before! Last season he hit in the 4th, 5th in and 6th spot of the Halos batting order. I think the Dodgers should and will hit him at the top of the lineup.
Heaney is 23 years and controllable through the 2020 season, and presumably he’ll get every opportunity to win a job in the Angels’ rotation. Jered Weaver, C.J. Wilson and Matt Shoemaker are the only starters guaranteed for jobs on Opening Day, as Garrett Richards may start the season on the DL. Heaney joins Tyler Skaggs, Nick Tropeano, Hector Santiago and Cory Rasmus in battling it out for rotation jobs in Spring Training. - MLB Trade Rumors
