The New York Yankees and Miami Marlins have agreed to a trade that will send Martin Prado to South Beach. Prado was acquired by the Yankees at the MLB trade deadline last season, but the Yankees also acquired Chase Headley, re-signed him this offseason and have a prospect in Rob Refsnyder that they clearly want to give a chance to play 2B.

In return, the Yankees will get pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, who was dealt to the Marlins in the deal Hanley Ramirez deal from the Dodgers. Garrett Jones will also head to the Bronx, whose power will fit perfectly in Yankee stadium.  Miami signed Michael Morse, making Jones available.  David Phelps will be dealt alongside Prado.

My guess would be Prado plays 3B for Miami with a Casey McGehee/Morse platoon at 1B. Otherwise, this deal make little sense for them. Miami appears to be trading McGehee to the San Francisco Giants, which will open up 3B for Prado.

The Marlins recently added Mat Latos to their rotation via trade.

Eovaldi will jump into the Yankees rotation with CC Sabathia, Masahiro Tanaka, Michael Pineda and recently re-signed Chris Capuano. He is a huge upgrade over Phelps.
