It takes a lot of luck, and not Andrew Luck as fantasy owners found out in the playoffs, to win a fantasy football championship.  It takes even more luck to win a fantasy football championship, by going undefeated! But that is what I did this season, in a 14 team half PPR league, that featured family, friends and bloggers. The competition was tough with me on top at 13-0, one team with a 9-4 record, one team with an 8-5 record and 5 teams finishing 7-6 or 6-7.  On the final week of the regular season, 5 teams were fighting for the final two playoff spots!

If KeithyP had played every team in the league each week, they would be 147-40.

It was almost too hard to watch as KeithyP took the sixth pick and drove any playoff hopes they had right off a cliff. They are projected to finish 4-9-0 (1,117), bad enough for a 12th-place finish in We Talk Fantasy Sports League. They felt they could wait on quarterback, holding out until the 11th round to secure Andy Dalton with the 146th overall selection. They landed one of the most prolific groups of WRs in the league, as they have Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders, Marques Colston, and Brian Hartline for their rotation.
The Heist Is On
The other league managers passed over a diamond in the rough. According to ADP, KeithyP got a steal in snatching Le'Veon Bell in the third round (34th overall pick vs. ADP of 22.8).
Was Emmanuel Sanders Worth it at Pick No. 79?
KeithyP sure hopes so. The Broncos' WR is projected to net 129 points this year, after putting up 110 last season.

Clearly, my 1st 3 picks were solid, but I was able to turn Mathews/Colston into Darren Sproles/Odell Beckham Jr via a trade back on October 10th.  Manny Sanders was my best value draft pick in the 6th round. Who knows how different my season would have been had I selected Eric Decker, Terrance Williams or Rueben Randle , who were drafted after Sanders in the 6th round!

MJD was dropped for Khiry Robinson on September 19th, who was dropped for Montee Ball on November 5th, who was dropped for Kendall Wright on November 19th, who was replaced by Jordan Cameron on November 26th.  I used Robinson in Weeks 3, 4, and 5, where he gained 245 rushing yards and scored one TD.

When the Saints had a BYE week 6, I turned to Storm Johnson (dropped Jones again, see below) of the Jacksonville Jaguars, who gained just 21 yards....but scored a touchdown!  In that same week I had to used Tim Wright (dropped Greene) as my TE with Graham also on BYE, and he too scored a TD....on his only catch that gained a SINGLE yard! Needless to say, it was my lowest scoring week of the season, yet I managed to squeak by with a win by the score of  77.66-71.92.

I later dropped Wright for Coby Fleener, who sat on my bench for a week, before I dropped him for Tre Mason.  Mason started for me in Week 8, 12, 13, 14, 15, and this week in the Championship when he scored a TD against my New York Football Giants.  I also flipped Wright into Jermaine Kearse who I dropped for the Green Bay Packers defense/special teams.

My Lord and Savior

The first move I made all season was dropping Brian Hartline on September 17th for James Jones. Less than 3 hours later, for reasons I can not remember, I dropped Jones to pick up Ben Roethlisberger and then dropped Andrew Hawkins to pick Jones back up!  It was a weird day, but the day my season was christened.  Big Ben sat on my bench for Week 3, but started every game for my team since Week 4. During the Pittsburgh Steelers BYE week, I turned to Alex Smith, who threw 2 touchdowns against the Oakland Raiders, and outscored his projection!  It was that kind of season for me!

To complete the look, I dropped the Arizona Cardinals kicker, Chandler Catanzaro (who I added during the Eagles BYE week for Parkey), and picked up Steelers kicker Shaun Suisham on November 26th! With Big Ben at QB, Bell at RB, Brown at WR and Suisham at K, I was heavily invested in the Steelers!

Mike tried that with the Broncos and Redskins this season, but it did not work out to well for him!

Fantasy Football Playoffs

After securing a BYE week by being the #1 seed (6 team playoffs, top 2 seeds get BYE), I just had to win one game to make the 'Ship. I was lucky enough to go up against an owner who had just lost Andre Ellington. This is the same owner, who won a playoff game after drafting Adrian Peterson in the 1st round. Impressive. But on this day, Russell Wilson was his best player with just 14 points. His next best player? His kicker, Matt Prater, who put up a 10 spot. He scored just 57.46 points. I won by 49.54 points.

KeithyP got 29.15 points from Odell Beckham Jr. and 20.60 from Ben Roethlisberger to destroy StraightOuttaTomlin 107.00 to 57.46. Blow out would be an understatement here, as this 49.54-point margin of victory was the seventh-largest of all matchups this season. KeithyP is amazingly still undefeated. This makes it two in a row for KeithyP against StraightOuttaTomlin. Their last matchup was a 77.66 to 71.92 win in Week 6. To make matters worse, StraightOuttaTomlin got zero points from Donte Moncrief. StraightOuttaTomlin finished the regular season in fourth place with a record of 8-5. With a scoring average of 92.24, they also placed fourth in the league in that metric. In their only other postseason game of the season, StraightOuttaTomlin defeated Fluffy Turtles, 120.81 to 95.10.

Father vs Son. This was just the 4th time all season Big Ben scored under 20 points. Not exactly a good time to do so, in the CHAMPIONSHIP! Matt Ryan QB'd my dad's team and outscored my QB by 8.59 points. But the Steelers defense (it has come full circle now!) limited Jamaal Charles to just 77 total yards! Without T.Y. Hilton, Pops was forced to go with Steve Smith Sr, Danny Amendola (Julian Edelman was out) and Stedman Bailey at WR, totaled just 14.20 points. My OBJ scored 23.40 himself! Dad also owns Greg Olsen, who prior to Sunday had gained 241 yards on 25 receptions in the 3 games after the Carolina Panthers BYE. Newton found Olsen just once for 21 yards.

Like I said, there is a LOT of luck in Fantasy Football.

The. Perfect. Season.
