The Boston Red Sox are desperate for pitching, so what do they do? Trade two to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Wade Miley! Trading Rubby De La Rosa and Allen Webster for one Miley seems like a strange trade to me, but its happening!
The Red Sox couldn't bring back Jon Lester, who signed with the Cubs.
Red Sox sign Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez
Miley is 28 years old with 102 starts under his belt. His career 3.79 ERA is nice, but pitched to a 4.34 ERA last season. His 183 K was a career high in 201.2 IP. He was a MUCH better pitcher on the road last year, after allowing 18 home runs at Chase Field in Arizona. Miley is now the Ace of the Red Sox pitching staff that features Clay Buchholz, Joe Kelly, Brandon Workman and Anthony Ranaudo.
De La Rosa (26 in March) and Webster (25 in Feb) made 29 starts for the Red Sox last season. They totaled 160.2 innings and struck out 110 batters. The move gives the D'Backs some nice depth in their rotation, with Jeremy Hellickson, Josh Collmenter, Chase Anderson, Trevor Cahill, Vidal Nuno, Robbie Ray, the return of Bronson Arroyo and Patrick Corbin and the eventual MLB debut of Archie Bradley.
