The Colts have been known to find themselves in big holes early in games but with the help of Andrew Luck they usually find a way to get back into it. Indianapolis heads into Denver to face Peyton Manning and the Broncos high powered offense. Back in week 1 the Colts found themselves down 24-0 in the first half but ended up losing by just 7, as they scored two late 4th quarter touchdowns.. There is no way Luck and the Colts can win on the road if they end up trailing by multiple scores early.
Indy will rely heavily on Luck and their air attack as they essentially have no run game. Losing Ahmad Bradshaw really hurt them, especially now with Trent Richardson not even being involved in the offense. Daniel Herron is the lead back but he's a risk to fumble just about every time he touches the ball. Herron did have 10 receptions last week and you can assume the same this week as Luck will likely dump a ton of passes off to him and hope he can make a big play. Reggie Wayne, Hakeem Nicks and Donte Moncrief should not scare the Broncos improved secondary (Aqib Talib, T.J. Ward, Chris Harris Jr. and Rahim Moore). Denver ranks 9th against the pass, allowing just 225 yards per game and are 2nd against the run allowing just under 80 yards. Luck and T.Y. Hilton will have to make the big plays this week if they want to beat Denver.
At the age of 38 I think it's fair to say Peyton Manning is breaking down. However he still threw for over 4,700 yards with 39 touchdowns. Over the final 4 weeks of the season Manning threw for just 3 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He definitely finished the year a little shaky but having C.J. Anderson take over as the featured back, a lot of pressure has been taken off of him. I also believe having a week off before this game will only benefit Manning and the Broncos.
Indy has the 12th best ranked pass defense but I'm not sure that they'll be able to contain Demaryius Thomas, Julius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and Wes Welker. There are just too many weapons for Peyton and he'll expose the Colts secondary.
Denver has a complete offense with a deadly passing game and an emerging running game. They also have a great secondary and a very good front 7 lead by DeMarcus Ware, Von Miller, and Terrance Knighton. The Colts offense is all about the pass and it wouldn't surprise me if they abandon the run all together.
I'll take Peyton Manning and a complete Broncos team on both sides of the ball.
Give me the Broncos -9 and the under of 54.5.
Prediction - Broncos 31 Colts 20
