I think its quite clear that this could be the final time we see Tom Brady and Bill Belichick compete for a Super Bowl title. I think it's also clear that Andrew Luck is on the verge of dominating the AFC. Luck can already be put into that elite class of QB's and with Brady and Peyton Manning on their way out of this league, Luck will be the face of the NFL for years to come. Do not be surprised if Luck plays in 6 or 7 AFC Championships in the next 10 years. However, with that being said, Brady and Belichick are on a mission this year and this is the best Patriots team we've seen in a decade.
It's scary that the Patriots ran the ball 13 times for just 14 yards last week against the Ravens and still scored 35 points. Brady completed 33 of 50 passes for 367 yards and 3 touchdowns. Julian Edelman added 51 yards and a touchdown pass as well.
It will be interesting to see how the Colts game plan for Rob Gronkowski. The Colts linebackers aren't the most talented group in the league and covering Gronk is no easy task that usually takes more than one defender. Gronk caught 7 passes last week for 108 yards and scored a touchdown. Then the Colts have to worry about the Pats wide outs - Edelman caught 8 passes last week for 74 yards and his one TD pass went to Danny Amendola. Amendola caught 2 touchdown passes on the day. Brandon LaFell is the forgotten man but he can beat you deep.
New England will hope to have Jonas Gray back for this game as he had his coming out party against the Colts back in November. Gray ran the ball 37 times for 201 yards and scored 4 touchdowns! The Patriots went over 500 yards in that game to beat the Colts 42-20. If Gray is out, then expect to see Brady drop back to pass all game like he did against Baltimore.
This will be the third week in a row I'm saying this, but the Colts will struggle if they do not develop a run game early. You simply cannot beat Belichick and the Patriots being one dimensional. They tried that back in week 11 as they ran for just 19 yards and ended up losing by 22 points.
But we've seen Luck the past two weeks just completely dominate the game and pick apart opposing defenses. Plus the Colts have run for 114 and 99 yards in those games. On 35 carries Daniel Herron has rushed for 119 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 fumbles. Turnovers will cripple Indy in Foxboro.
Indianapolis will need a big game out of T.Y. Hilton and Coby Fleener, and they cannot afford to drop any passes that could result in big plays - Hilton and Fleener have seen their fair share of drops this year. The Patriots will do everything they can to get Darrelle Revis involved in disrupting the pass.
This game means too much to Brady and Belichick, but Luck's time to shine will be here soon.
Give me the Patriots -7 and the under of 54.
