Dellin Betances came on in the 8th inning for the New York Yankees, trailing 2-1 to the Toronto Blue Jays. His struggles from Spring Training continued in his first appearance of the MLB season, walking two batters, giving up a hit and a run scored. The Yankees scored three runs in the bottom of the 8th off Brett Cecil (blown save, runs charged to Aaron Loup) and Andrew Miller earned the save in the 9th, throwing 8 strikes on 10 pitches and striking out a batter. Betances was credited with a win.
With Betances struggling and Miller looking "as cool as the other side of the pillow," it's safe to say Miller is the Yankees closer for the time being.
LaTroy Hawkins came on for a 2nd straight day to save the game for the Colorado Rockies, only to give up 4 hits and allow Ryan Braun (pinch hit) and Carlos Gomez to pick up RBIs to send the game to extra innings. John Axford earned the save in the 10th, Hawkins was credited with a win. Adam Ottavino set-up Hawkins in the 8th,
Francisco Rodriguez allowed Wilin Rosario to hit the game winning home run in the top of the 10th, in a non-save situation.
Ottavino will be the guy in Colorado should Hawkins continue to struggle or just continue to be 42 years old.
In a 2-0 Rays win over the Orioles, Brad Boxberger picked up the save, striking out Steve Pearce, Travis Snider and Adam Jones.
The Dodgers took 2 of 3 from the Padres - Chris Hatcher and Joel Peralta each earned a save. Until Kenley Jansen returns, you should get used to them sharing saves.
