The Texas Rangers are confusing some fantasy baseball owners who remember baseball in its glory days - The 90's.
After few appearances in April, Delino DeShields has become a key cog in the Rangers offense. But not retired 13 year veteran DeShields, who was a career .268 hitter and hit 26 doubles, 14 triples and 11 home runs which led to 92 runs scored in 1997 while stealing 55 bases for the St. Louis Cardinals.
No, we are talking about Jr.
Delino DeShields Jr. was the 8th overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft to the Houston Astros. A dreadful 2014 campaign in which he hit just .236 followed a career year in 2013 in which he hit .317.
However, that season was derailed in April thanks to a fastball to the face!
Did I mention he stole 101 bases in 2012, followed by 50+ in '13 & '14?
DeShields was selected in the Rule 5 draft this winter by the Rangers.
DeShields finds himself hitting 9th in the Texas Rangers lineup, when he plays, manning left and center field. He is hitting .360/.484/.560 this month and scored 11 runs while stealing 7 bases in 25 ABs. He will find himself playing more and more if he continues to be this productive.
He is owned in just 7% of ESPN leagues and 5% Yahoo. If your league offers a deep bench, stash him. The moment he becomes an everyday player, you will want him in your lineup.
The Rangers just sent down 20 year old Rougned Odor to the Minors, opening up 2B which can be played by Tommy Field, Adam Rosales or DeShields.
