Tom Brady Suspension Revoked!

Original 5/11

Commissioner Roger Goodell has suspended New England Patriots QB Tom Brady 4 games to start the NFL season for his role in Deflategate.

Brady will miss the following matchups:
  • Week 1 vs Steelers
  • Week 2 @ Bills
  • Week 3 vs Jaguars
  • Week 4 BYE
  • Week 5 @ Cowboys

Not having Brady for primetime games against the Steelers and Cowboys must be tough for the NFL to swallow, but they made a tough decision that was probably the right one.

However, as Reddit has pointed out:

The NFL really needs to get their act together and come up with more fitting punishments.

Brady will return to face Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts, which will most definitely be move to primetime and will see the story come full circle.  This didn't start in the AFC Championship game but it is most certainly where it became known to the public.

By the end of the Week 6 the New England Patriots will most likely be 2-3, in a tough AFC East division that saw the Buffalo Bills, New York Jets and Miami Dolphins all improve this offseason.  It will be a challenge for the Pats to return to the playoffs to defend their Super Bowl Championship, but my money is still on them.

As far as fantasy football goes, Brady will be a VERY valuable draft pick if you can hold off for a while and other owners stay away.  Someone will be willing to jump the gun and will most likely reap the benefits.  But should you need a QB and Brady is available as the 7, 8 or 9th one off the board, I wouldn't hesitate to grab him, and pick up another QB later in the draft.

Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman owners will have to suffer through the first 4 games, but if you can survive, you will be rewarded.  Again their stock falls, but they are still worth drafting.

With Jimmy Garoppolo under center, LeGarrette Blount can expect a heavy workload to begin the season, along with Jonas Gray and Travaris Cadet.  Blount is the only one worth drafting in 10-12 team leagues.

There is still PLENTY of time for this to change with appeals and such so take all of this in with a grain of salt.  It is only May, preseason football begins in August, lots can/will change!
