The Houston Astros have called up Baseball America's #4 prospect, SS Carlos Correa. This move is made possible so soon by a Jed Lowrie injury just 18 games into the season. Marwin Gonzalez and Jonathan Villar have played SS for the 1st place Astros in Lowrie's place. Villar hit .317 in May with 5 doubles, but Gonzalez hit just .250
Correa hit .335 in AA before being called up to AAA where he has struggled, hitting .266 over 94 ABs. He is just 20 years old and was selected 1st overall in the 2012 MLB Draft.
Correa will join a 34 win Astros club that has surprised everyone and done so with dominate pitching. Adding another bat to a lineup that is 28th in batting average and 25th in OBP, Correa will boost not only the players morale around him but the fans are going to rally behind this move, as well as fantasy baseball owners!
The @Astros are promoting Carlos Correa. Eight of 15 top MLB execs told me they'd rather have him than Kris Bryant. http://t.co/UKTO4eYRDc— Ben Reiter (@SI_BenReiter) June 8, 2015
