Gerrit Cole against any team is usually a good matchup, but Cole against the Philadelphia Phillies offense is the perfect matchup.  Cole is 9-2 on the year for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and owns a 1.73 EAR and 1.10 WHIP with 86 strikeouts in 78 IP.  Cole has yet to allow an earned run in two June starts.  The San Francisco Giants scored 2 unearned runs in 7 innings, striking out 9 times.  Cole followed that up with a shutout of the Atlanta Braves across 7 innings, striking out 7.

One of my favorite things about Cole is that he has been consistent.  He has just one game with double digit strikeouts, and just one start with less than 6, yet still owns a 9.9 K/9.

The Phillies are averaging just 3.7 runs per game in the month of June, and were just shutout last night by the Pirates Jeff Locke.

Ben Revere and Maikel Franco have had a nice month for the Phillies, but Chase Utley and Ryan Howard combined don't have as many total bases as Franco.  Franco has 5 doubles and 4 home runs in June, leading to 8 runs and 8 RBI.  Without Utley and Howard as a threat, this lineup is not scary.

Cole is going to be the most expensive pitching option in the early slate of games (4pm EST) but should be worth every penny.  Last night we saw Clayton Kershaw dominate the San Diego Padres and David Price pitch his 2nd CG in a row.  Just pray that Cole doesn't have  Felix Hernandez like start!
