The Philadelphia Phillies continued their rebuilding process today, trading the Ace of their pitching staff, Cole Hamels, to the Texas Rangers. In return the Rangers will send Jorge Alfaro, Jerad Eickhoff, Alec Asher and Nick Williams to the Phillies. Philly is 38-64 on the season, 16.5 games out of first place in the National League East. They have the worst record in the MLB, despite wining 8 of their last 10 games.

Matt Harrison will head to Philly while Jake Diekman comes to Texas.

Phillies Rebuilding Process

The Texas Rangers are 8 games out of 1st place in the American League West, behind the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Angels. They acquired Yovani Gallardo this past winter and he has become the Ace of the staff with Yu Darvish out for the season. The entire pitching staff has struggled in July, but Nick Martinez, Colby Lewis, Wandy Rodriguez and a whole bunch of other dudes have filled out the rotation. Scott Feldman and Martin Perez finally returned to the Rangers staff Derek Holland is still recovering from a shoulder injury.

Phillies Trade Papelbon to Nationals

Hamels has managed to win 6 of his 15 starts he made for the Phillies, including a no-hitter with 13 K in his last start against the Chicago Cubs. That has led to a 3.64 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. He has 137 strikeouts, and just 39 walks, in 128.2 IP. He has allowed 12 home runs this season, 7 at Citizens Bank Ballpark. Summers in Texas aren't a much better place to pitch, but the runs support should be there!
