Detroit Tigers Sign Jordan Zimmermann

Jordan Zimmermann wasted no time finding a new home, as the free agent SP has agreed to sign with the Detroit Tigers for $110 mil over 5 years.

The Tigers also acquired OF Cameron Maybin this offseason in a trade with the Atlanta Braves.

At 4.64, the Tigers had the third worst ERA in the MLB last season.  Zimmermann will help, joining Justin Verlander and Anibal Sanchez who need to stay healthy if Detroit wants to compete.

Zimmermann has made 162 starts since 2010, good for 35th in the MLB.  Of the 35 pitchers with 1,000+ innings pitched since 2010, his K/9 is 23rd at 7.28 and his BB/9 of 1.72 is the best in baseball, tied with Doug Fister.

Zimmermann has also performed well in limiting platoon splits. He’s been slightly better against righties historically, of course, but has handle opposite-handed hitters in equivalent manner in most regards. Lefties do draw walks at a higher rate (2.3 vs. 1.4 BB/9), but their overall production has not been markedly greater (.310 vs. .286 wOBA). - MLB Trade Rumors
