The Detroit Tigers have made a splash this off season by signing free agent OF Justin Upton, a deal worth $132 million over six years. However the deal does have an opt-out after the second year. The 28 year old Upton will take over the left field duties in Detroit.
Upton hit .251 last season with 26 home runs and 81 RBI with the Padres. He should be good for a .275 average with 25 home runs and 90 RBI.
This deal is extremely similar to the move they made trading for Yoenis Cespedes last off season.
Detroit also acquired Cameron Maybin back in November, who will now serve as the Tigers 4th outfielder.
It's kind of funny when you think about it. Detroit is willing to give Upton $132 million and Jordan Zimmermann $110, but gave up on aces Max Scherzer and David Price because of their price. Very strange.
Detroit's new lineup will look something like this:
Again looks like a promising lineup, but they had basically an identical lineup last season and won just 74 games.
