RUN to your fantasy baseball waiver wire - the Houston Astros have called up first baseman A.J. Reed. The 23-year old should be the everyday first baseman for the Astros with occasional rest against lefties.
The 6'4, 275 pound first baseman hit .266 in Triple-A with 11 home runs in 59 games. However, this past week, he hit .372 with five doubles and three home runs in 43 ABs.
Reed is a true power bat and should provide the Astros with plenty of it. Last year between A and AA ball, Reed hit .340 with 34 home runs and 127 RBI. He also hit 30 doubles, four triples and drew 86 walks, giving him a remarkable .432 OBP.
Houston was able to hold off calling up Reed up until this point because of what Tyler White did early on in the year. White hit .340 with 5 home runs and 12 RBI over the teams first 15 games. He has cooled off considerable now and is hitting just .211 and was optioned to Triple-A Fresno.
A lineup with George Springer, Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa , Carlos Gomez, Evan Gattis and now A.J. Reed gives the Astros a great chance to take over a American League Wild Card spot and cruise into the postseason.
