The San Diego Padres have a plethora of hitting prospects and that could grow at the trade deadline. It wasn't to long ago that the Padres were spending big bucks and selling the farm to acquire talent in James Shields, Justin Upton, Matt Kemp, Craig Kimbrel and Wil Myers.
Shields was just dealt to the White Sox for pennies on the dollar, Upton signed with the Tigers this past Winter and Kimbrel was traded last year to the Red Sox.
San Diego sent Cameron Maybin, Carlos Quentin, and Matt Wisler to Atlanta in exchange for Kimbrel and flipped him for a great package of prospects courtesy of Boston, that included Manuel Margot, Carlos Asuaje and Javier Guerra.
Kemp and Myers are still on the roster, but Myers value is as high as it was the day the Royals traded him to the Rays for James Shields, back in December of 2012 and there are rumors they are looking to sell. However, San Diego did give up Trea Turner and Jake Bauers to acquire Myers.
Kemp cost the Padres Zach Eflin, who just made his MLB debut with the Phillies and is a top 25 MILB pitcher this year. Kemp also has a $21 mil price tag through the 2019 season, so it will be difficult to deal him, despite the fact that his bat has come alive as of late.
Here are the top 25 hitters down in the Minor Leagues, using fantasy baseball scoring. With injuries starting to pile up and the trade deadline right around the corner, it's a good idea to get used to hearing some of these names!
