There are five players in the NBA currently averaging 30 points per game:
  1. DeMar DeRozan 34.0
  2. Russell Westbrook 31.9
  3. Anthony Davis 31.1
  4. Damian Lillard 30.7
  5. James Harden 30.0
Each of them find different ways to score.

DeMar DeRozan Heatmap

DeRozan has mastered the mid-range game. He leads the NBA with 100 attempts from that distance and has knocked down more than 50% of his attempts. He has only made 3 of his 14 attempts from beyond the arc. Only once in 9 games has he scored less than 30 points (23 vs Kings). His season high was 40 on opening night. 24% of his points scored have come from the free throw line.

Russell Westbrook Heatmap

Westbrook leads the NBA in shot attempts with 237. However, he is shooting just 43% from the field, right at his career average. Only DeMarcus Cousins, Blake Griffin and Giannis Antetokounmpo have attempted more shots inside the restricted area.  He scored a season high 52 points against the Suns, while the Heat limited him to just 14 points.  He recorded his 3rd triple-double of the year on Sunday against the Magic - 41 pts / 16 asts / 12 rebs.  32% of his points scored have come from the free throw line.

Anthony Davis Heatmap

The Pelicans are 1-9, but Davis continues to fill the stat sheet each night.  He scored 95 points in New Orleans first two games and has scored at least 30 in each of their last four contests.  His rebounding totals are up as are his blocks and steals per game.  29.5% of his points scored have come from the free throw line.

Damian Lillard Heatmap

Lillard leads the NBA in points scored, but the Blazers have played a league high 11 games.  Only Steph Curry has attempted and/or made more three pointers.  To my surprise, Kemba Walker has also made 61 threes, on 14 less attempts (47%).  Dame scored a season high 42 points against the Mavericks, but the Clippers held him to just 8 points in their 2nd matchup this year.  30% of his points scored have come from the free throw line.

James Harden Heatmap

DeMarcus Cousins, Kevin Durant and Steph Curry have all scored more points than James Harden, but the Rockets have only played 9 games. He scored a season high 41 points against the Cavs and has yet to scores below 24 points in a game. Playing in Mike D'Antoni's system, Harden has had 12 or more assists in seven games. 28% of his points scored have come from the free throw line.
