The Chicago White Sox have agree to trade Chris Sale to the Boston Red Sox for a package of stud prospects - Yoan Moncada, Michael Kopech, Luis Alexander Basabe and Victor Diaz. Sale will join David Price, Rick Porcello, Drew Pomeranz and Eduardo Rodriguez in Boston's rotation.
Since becoming a starting pitcher in 2012, Sale's 70 wins is good for 8th best. Say what you will about the statistic, but only the best of the best top this list, including Bartolo Colon!
Sale is one of eight starting pitchers with a K/9 greater than 10 and only Clayton Kershaw has a lower BB/9 in that group.
Sale pitched 6 complete games in 2016 to lead the league.
Jose Quintana will now be the Ace of the White Sox rotation that includes Carlos Rodon, James Shields and Miguel Gonzalez.
The White Sox also have one of the best pitching prospects in Carson Fulmer, who was selected 8th overall in the 2015 MLB draft.
Moncada could find himself in the White Sox opening day lineup. He hit .294 between A+ & AA last year, with 31 doubles and 15 home runs while stealing 45 bases. He saw some late MLB action with 19 September ABs.
Kopech is not quite MLB ready. He did dominate A+ ball last year, with 82 strikeouts in 52 innings pitched over 11 starts.
Sale was rumored to be headed to the Washington Nationals in a deal that would have sent Lucas Giolito and Victor Robles to Chicago. As a New York Mets fan, I am glad that trade did not go down!
