Green Bay would open the game with a disappointing 3 and out. However, a 68 yard punt by Jake Schum would pin the Falcons down at the 2 yard line.
Devonta Freeman would give Atlanta offense some breathing room with a 6 yard run up to the 8 yard line, but the Falcons would fail to convert on a third down, resulting in a punt back to the Packers.
Micah Hyde's 23 yard punt return set up Aaron Rodgers at the Falcons 37.
It took Green Bay just 4 plays to find the end zone for the first score of the game. The drive was capped off by a 4 yard Davante Adams touchdown.
On the second play of the ensuing drive, Matt Ryan threw a pass to Freeman who was hit as he caught it. The ball bounced out of Freeman's hands and into the hands of Damarious Randall, whose momentum took him 34 yards for a pick 6. This gave Green Bay an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
Atlanta would put together a 13 play drive that resulted in a Matt Bryant field goal with under a minute to play in the first quarter, cutting Green Bay's lead to 14-3.
After a Packers punt, Atlanta once again used a long drive of 14 plays to put points on the board. This time it was a Tevin Coleman 1 yard touchdown run on 4th and goal to make it a 14-10 game. Matt Ryan completed 8-9 passes on the drive, with six of those completions going to Julio Jones and Taylor Gabriel.
Rodgers finally put together a good drive, as Green Bay was able to add a Mason Crosby field goal, to increase their lead to 17-10 with 2:36 left in the half. Despite the lead, this was the first drive of over 5 plays for Green Bay.
With just 7 seconds left in the half, Atlanta would tie it up at 17 on a Freeman touchdown run.
The Falcons would get the ball right back to start the second half and a chance to take the lead. However, that chance would come to an end as Freeman was stripped by Jake Ryan and the Packers recovered the fumble, taking over at the Falcons 26 yard line.
The Falcons defense stepped up, limiting Rodgers and the offense to just a field goal, as the Packers regained the lead, 20-17.
For a second straight time, Jake Ryan forced a Falcons turnover. This time, he sacked Matt Ryan causing the ball to come loose and it was scooped up by Mike Daniels who returned it to the Falcons 29.
This time Rodgers would not settle for 3. He found Adams in the end zone for the second time in the game, giving Green Bay a 10 point lead.
Matt Ryan proved why he's an MVP candidate. He lead the Falcons on a 75 yard, 8 play drive, completing six passes. Two of those completions went to Coleman totaling 45 yards. Julio Jones' touchdown trimmed the Packers lead to 27-24.
Rodgers threw for 70 yards on the next drive, capping it off with a 8 yard score to Jared Cook. This put Green Bay back up by 10 with 8:26 to play in the game.
On a 3rd and 6, the Packers were threatening to force the Falcons to punt, but under pressure, Ryan broke out of a sack and threw a deep ball to Gabriel down the sideline who made the catch, stayed in bounds and took it to the house for 58 yards. Falcons cut the lead to 3, 34-31.
Green Bay was able to add a Crosby field goal with 1:55 left in the game to put the Packers up 37-31.
Taking over from the 25 with 3 timeouts and 1:55 left in the game, Atlanta would get to midfield where they faced a 4th and 10. Ryan hit Jones over the middle for 18 yards, down to the Packers 32. With 21 seconds left the Falcons use their final timeout at the 27 yard line. Ryan would hook up with Jones again down to the 14 yard line, and Atlanta spiked the ball with 5 seconds left. On the final play of the game, Ryan threw a jump ball to Jones who was hit by two defenders, knocking the ball loose for an incomplete pass.
The Packers win 37-31, sending Green Bay back to the Super Bowl!
