UPDATE: Strained Oblique Sends Evan Longoria to the DL

Longoria could be out at least 3 weeks!

Longoria was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a left oblique strain, with the team expecting the All-Star to be out at least three weeks. Longoria, who pulled himself out of Saturday's game, said an MRI exam revealed a "moderate" strain, and he hopes three weeks is the maximum. He will be re-evaluated today.

Evan Longoria was taken out of Saturday's game during the 6th inning, after suffering from soreness that he felt during batting practice before the game.  He said it got worse and worse as the game went on, and the Rays decided to place him on the DL on today (Sunday).

Well this isn't news Longoria owners want to hear, but it's better that this is happening now so he can get his rest and come back healthy.  This is something that would not go away if Longoria tried to play through it.  It's only 15 days, Evan will be back and we all know he will make up those stats and be an MVP candidate at the end of the year as always.

It looks like Sean Rodriquez will play 3B in the mean time for the Rays, and they have purchased Felipe Lopez's contract and Elliot Johnson started at 2b today.  His minor league stats here.  Follow MLBDepthCharts for more info
