Fantasy Football Pickups for Week 12

Happy Thanksgiving!

Green Bay Packers @ Detroit Lions 12:30pm FOX
Miami Dolphins @ Dallas Cowboys 4:15pm CBS
San Francisco 49ers @ Baltimore Ravens 8:20pm NFL

Week 11 brought us more injuries to key fantasy players.  Jay Cutler of the Chicago Bears could potentially miss the rest of the season after surgery on his thumb.  Division rival Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings left early after suffering what looked like a nasty ankle injury.  AP is promising to play, but it might not be in his, or the teams best interest if he does.  Over in the AFC, the Buffalo Bills Fred Jackson bruised his calf and might sit against the Jets.  2 key RBs could miss Week 12 and then some, which could leave fantasy owners reaching for a RB in the coming weeks.  But have no fear, as We Talk Fantasy Sports are going to help you pick the right guy.  Let us know who you have to pick from!

Must Haves
Torrey Smith WR – This guy has too much upside not to have on your team.  With his speed he is capable of putting up huge numbers each week.  He’s only going to get better as he and Joe Flacco develop a stronger chemistry.

Solid Pickups
Matt Moore QB – For all the Jay Cutler owners, please avoid Caleb Hanie.  He is not what you will be looking for.  If guys like Andy Dalton and Carson Palmer are no longer available in your leagues, Matt Moore should be your QB.  He has done a nice job lately, completing over 70% of his passes with 6 TDs to 1 INT, and the Dolphins are hot right now.  Plus the Cowboys just let Rex Grossman throw all over them last week.

Jabar Gaffney WR – With all the injuries to the Washington receivers Gaffney is the main guy for Grossman.  Against Dallas he put up 7/115/1 and will continue to see a ton of passes coming his way as the season continues.

Michael Crabtree WR – Crabtree put up 7/120 against the Cards on Sunday and now faces a Ravens defense who gave up nearly 400 yards through the air to Andy Dalton and AJ Green didn’t even play.  Crabtree will see a lot of passes coming his way on Thanksgiving and should have a good fantasy day.

Good For A Week
Kevin Smith RB – With Javid Best still recovering and another matchup against a poor run defense, Kevin Smith could look to build on a monster week.  After 3 TDs on 16 carries that went for 140 yards, Smith could see another 100 yard performance, while adding in some catches, as the Lions should play from behind the Packers most of Thursday night.

Ryan Grant RB – James Starks suffered an injury that made him miss a good portion of the game Sunday, and with the Packers playing on Thanksgiving it looks like Starks will most likely sit, meaning Grant will be the featured back.

Alex Smith QB – The 49ers play the Ravens in week 12 and Alex Smith is going to have to air it out in this one.  It’s not easy to run on the Ravens but most QBs have shown the Ravens have a serious weakness in their pass defense.  Alex Smith might be in line for his biggest day yet if they cannot get a run game going on Thanksgiving.

Seattle D – The Seahawks have been playing very solid defense all year and now face a Redskins team who has lost 6 straight.  Grossman looked much better against Dallas but with no run game, he is almost a lock for a few turnovers, as well as some sacks.

Players to Watch
Jake Locker QB – He looked great coming in for the injured Hasslebeck throwing two scores to go along with 140 yards.  He will always be a threat to run as well so expect similar number to Christian Ponder, but with better weapons on offense.  Hasslebeck should be ok for Week 12, but if the Titans find themselves out of the playoff picture, it will be Locker’s turn to play out the season.

Kyle Orton QB - Just waived by the Denver Broncos, and Orton will have plenty of teams waiting to claim him.  It could be Seattle, Washington, Houston, Kansas City, or even Chicago.  Where ever he ends up, it is more than likely he will play, so if you just lost Jay Cutler, or in deeper leagues Matt Cassel, look to stash Orton JUST IN CASE he does get picked up and gets a chance to play.
