20 Team League Crowns Inaugural Champion!

The experiment is complete and we have crowned our 1st ever 20 Team League Champion!  Congrats to GmEn on their extremely tough and unlikley championship!  You can follow him on twitter @jlott3682

How did he do it?  Well it all started with one heck of a draft!  He was drafting with the 16th overall pick in a snake draft and he was able to build his team around Rob Gronkowski (pick 16) and Adrian Peterson (25)!  He took a huge risk on Peterson and boy did it ever pay off!  He then selected Dez Bryant (56) and follow that up with a QB in Philp Rivers (65).  His season savior came in the 10th round with pick 185 when James Jones was selected.  With the injuries to Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson this year, James Jones took full advatange and caught 58 passes for 13 touchdowns!  With 1 game to go in the regular season, Jones is currently the #15 WR in this 20 man PPR league.  Adding that to Dez Bryant's #3 WR ranking and Adrian Peterson #1 RB ranking, you can understand how a team with Philip Rivers (#18 QB) as their QB won the championship.  Let's not forget that first round pick Rob Gronkowski has played in just 10 games this year yet is still the #3 TE overall.  During the entire course of the season GmEn made just 4 waiver moves, and none of them even panned out.  It just goes to show you that the draft DOES matter and that just because you make the most moves in the league, it doesn't gaurantee you a championship!

    • Jon Baldwin was add/drop/traded 5 times

Most standard fantasy football leagues have 8-12 members, and can hold up to 14-20 players per team creating a range of owned players at any one time of 112 all the way up to 240.  Well, on September 3, 2012 at 6:15pm EST, the 20 Team League became official and drafted 300 players!

Of the 20 teams that participated in last nights draft, only 3 used the RB / RB combo with their first two picks.  Of LeSean McCoy (4) / Michael Turner (37), Chris Johnson (10) / Doug Martin (31) and DeMarco Murray (19) / Maurice Jones-Drew (22) which team/s do you think made the right decision and which team/s reached for their backfield?

Two teams went with WRs to start their drafts and ended up with Calvin Johnson (7) / Wes Welker (34), and Larry Fitzgerald (15) / Julio Jones (26).  Would you have gone this route if you were lucky enough to draft with us?

Just two owners went QB in round 1 and followed that up with a RB in round 2.  Cam Newton (12) / Reggie Bush (29) and Matt Ryan (18) / Steven Jackson (23).  Trent Richardson (20) / Eli Manning (21) was the only RB / QB combo.  Did they reach for their QBs?

With the #1 pick Aaron Rodgers was selected and that was followed up by the ONLY QB / TE combo when Aaron Hernandez (40) was drafted.  Is it ever a good idea to have 2 guys named Aaron on your fantasy football team?

The most popular draft combo was RB / WR and that was done by 6 different owners.  Arian Foster (2) / Hakeem Nicks (39), Ray Rice (3) / Jordy Nelson (38), Darren McFadden (8) / Brandon Marshall (33), Matt Forte (9) / Roddy White (32), Jamaal Charles (13) / Victor Cruz (28), and Marshawn Lynch (17) / A.J. Green (24).  Which combo would do you like?

The two teams that went TE in round 1 followed that up with RBs in round 2, which is a wise decision.  Of Jimmy Graham (11) / Ryan Matthews (30) & Rob Gronkowski (16) / Adrian Peterson (25), which owner came out on top?

The remaining 3 owners went QB / WR, which I definitely thought we were going to see more of.  Drew Brees (5) / Mike Wallace (36), Tom Brady (6) / Greg Jennings (35) & Matthew Stafford (14) / Andre Johnson (27).  Which combo is your favorite?

Kellen Winslow (19% owned in Yahoo leagues) who was drafted, only to be quickly dropped when the mistake was realized and Tim Hightower (10%) is all that is left from last nights amazing draft, which started off with Aaron Rodgers going #1 overall and finished with Mr. Irrelevant Donald Jones at pick #300!  Rookie Ryan Tannehill of the Miami Dolphins seems to have been the only starting QB NOT drafted and is projected to get the most points of any player that went undrafted.  That's funny because Tim Tebow, Kevin Kolb and Matt Flynn were all drafted and are currently the backup QBs on their respective clubs.

The running back position will require injuries to big name players AND most of their backups before a waiver wire move is used on one of them.  Top 10 in order of Yahoo projected season stats:
  • Mike Goodson (Oak - RB)
  • Jed Collins (NO - RB)
  • Marcel Reece (Oak - RB)
  • Jason Snelling (Atl - RB)
  • Brian Leonard (Cin - RB)
  • Bilal Powell (NYJ - RB)
  • John Kuhn (GB - RB)
  • Bernard Pierce (Bal - RB)
  • Chris Rainey (Pit - RB)
  • Vick Ballard (Ind - RB)
And when it comes to what is left at the wide receiver position, outside of any rookies involved, these guys would make you cringe if your favorite NFL team signed them!  Top 10 in order of Yahoo projected season stats:
  • Michael Jenkins (Min - WR)
  • Andre Caldwell (Den - WR)
  • Legedu Naanee (Mia - WR)
  • Domenik Hixon (NYG - WR)
  • Austin Pettis (StL - WR)
  • Brandon Gibson (StL - WR)
  • Mike Thomas (Jac - WR)
  • Jeremy Kerley (NYJ - WR)
  • Jerricho Cotchery (Pit - WR)
  • Preston Parker (TB - WR)
As deep as we all thought the TE position was coming into our regular draft, there is no such luxury in this league.  Top 10 in order of Yahoo projected season stats:
  • Tony Scheffler (Det - TE)
  • Michael Palmer (Atl - TE)
  • Rob Housler (Ari - TE)
  • Craig Stevens (Ten - TE)
  • John Carlson (Min - TE)
  • Luke Stocker (TB - TE)
  • Clay Harbor (Phi - TE)
  • Delanie Walker (SF - TE)
  • Randy McMichael (SD - TE)
  • Travis Beckum (NYG - TE)
