Fantasy Basketball Week 14 Recap

Could the Boston Celtics be willing to trade Kevin Garnett to the Los Angeles Clippers?  That is a question Sporting News is wondering and thinks the deal would revolve around Eric Bledsoe and Caron Butler.  To me the move makes little sense for the Celtics as they have Rajon Rondo (who is lost for this season) heading into to next season and this one is pretty much lost without him.  Trading Garnett for a replacement point guard doesn't make you better when you trade Garnett.  The Celtics also lost Jared Sullinger for the season with a back injury this weekend so they would be left with Brandon BassJeff Green to play PF while Jason Collins and Fab Melo play center.  That won't work or win the Eastern Conference.  If Boston were to trade Kevin Garnett, I hope they do so looking into the future by acquiring draft picks and players of position of need (center) and / or under great contracts.  Teams looking to win the championship this season would be more than willing to part with those pieces if it meant getting Kevin Garnett's defense and leadership in return.

Rumor also has it that the Houston Rockets are interested in Danny Granger of the Indiana Pacers.  Granger is close to returning so he could have immediate impact in Houston.  Carlos Delfino and Chandler Parsons would see a decline in minutes and fantasy value if they weren't involved in the deal.

The Rudy Gay trade has seen all of its shifted players in their new roles, except for Jose Calderon for the Detroit Pistons.  Averaging 37 minutes over 2 games, Rudy Gay has dropped 49 points on 19-39 shooting.  It's only two games but they were against the Clippers and the Heat so the 48% shooting is a huge positive sign for the Raptors, Gay and fantasy owners.  One thing to note is the increased 3 point attempts.  Gay is 4 of 9 from downtown but that is now 4 straight games (including the last 2 as a member of the Grizzlies) with at least 5 three point attempts.

DeMar DeRozan has not seen a change in style in his game since the Raptors acquired Gay which is another positive sign for fantasy owners.  His 27 points against the Heat however were aided by 14 made free throws.

Maybe Kyle Lowry is still a little banged up but he has disappointed in the teams first two games with Rudy.  Just 13 points, 11 assists and 9 rebounds.  If you own him, hold onto him and ride this one out (unless you receive an offer you can't refuse).  If you WANT him, go low ball the owner and see what you can do!  I would say he is worth the risk right now at a cheap price.  LET US KNOW WHO YOU PLAN ON TRADING BEFORE PULLING THE TRIGGER!

Back in Memphis, the Grizzlies Tayshaun Prince shot 7-11 for 14 points while adding just a single rebound but 3 assists.  The 14 points should come on a nightly basis, but he SHOULD see an increase in rebounds.  I don't see reason for much change in Prince's box scores (compared to his games as a Piston) going forward.

Ed Davis and Austin Daye saw just 5 minutes while Darrell Arthur got 17.

Detroit Pistons head coach Lawrence Franks has stated that Jose Calderon will start for the Pistons alongside Brandon Knight.  The minutes will be there for Rodney Stuckey if you own him, but it's the small forward position that will be a fun battle to watch.  Does Kyle Singler get the gig?  Can Stuckey cut into some of those minutes? Is Jonas Jerebko going to get out of the dog house?  Will Charlie Villanueva shift down to the SF position at times? Corey Maggette stills dons a Pistons jersey right?

The Chicago Bulls are LOADED with injuries and Jimmy Butler (25% owned Yahoo) has once again become a must own player.  I would want him on my roster right up until the All-Star break as Carlos Boozer (hamstring), and Joakim Noah (foot).  Taj Gibson (23%) is a solid own as well.
