Ryan Ludwick - Shoulder - Out 3 Months

The Baseball world was buzzing yesterday with Yu Darvish perfecting the Houston Astros lineup.  But Ryan Ludwick, an important piece to the Cincinnati Reds offense and a nice power source for fantasy baseball, was ruled out for 3 months!  Ludwick injured his shoulder, which originally was thought to be a dislocation, on opening day against the Los Angeles Angels.  Ludwick belted 26 home runs and drove the ball for 28 doubles while driving in 80 runs for the Reds last season.

Chris Heisey (5 % CBS, 0% ESPN, 2% Yahoo) will get most of the ABs and is a decent fantasy option himself if you are looking for a power bat.  He hit 18 home runs and 16 doubles last season as a reserve in just 347 ABs.  He is a right handed hitter that doesn't hit lefties very well, so expect some type of platoon in the near future.  I would absolutely add him in NL only leagues.  Nothing more than a rotational player in mixed formats.

Obviously, Collin Cowgill (21% CBS, 8.2% ESPN, 9% Yahoo) looks like a great addition to any owner replacing Ludwick.  Cowgill is leading off for the Mets and hit a grandslam on opening day.  As the Mets broadcast both said, "he has middle of the order power, in a leadoff hitters body."

The Red Sox gave a starting gig to rookie Jackie Bradley JR. (59 % CBS, 55% ESPN, 43% Yahoo) and he had a great debut against C.C. Sabathia.  JBJ walked twice, scored twice and drove in a run.

Domonic Brown of the Philadelphia Phillies is just 32.4% owned in ESPN leagues and 44% on Yahoo, and had one hell of a spring!  He hit .356 with 7 homers and 17 RBI in 30 games, 90 ABs.

Obviously this early in the season, there are many names available on waivers, so do your research, study your league scoring and come back to us with any questions!  Let us know if you owned Ludwick, how you replaced him!
