Return of the Francona and Thursday’s Box Scores

Terry Francona received a standing ovation as he returned to Fenway as the manager of the first place Cleveland Indians. Chris Davis hit his MLB leading 15th home run. But Miguel Cabrera stays on his heels by swatting number 14. Manny Machado stayed hot by adding three doubles.

Cubs 2 v Pirates 4: A rain delay in the fourth may have saved Edwin Jackson from an even worse outing. He surrendered four earned runs in three innings pitched. Clint Barmes had a double for the Pirates and Travis Snider hit a triple. Andrew McCutchen had three hits and two RBI and Jason Grilli notched his 19th save. David DeJesus had a double for the Cubs (Pittsburgh swept the series 3-0).

Orioles 6 v Blue Jays 12: Brandon Morrow picked up the win for the Blue Jays, however, he gave up six earned runs on ten hits and one walk in seven innings. JP Arencibia and Edwin Encarnacion hit home runs for the Blue Jays. Manny Machado hit three doubles for the Orioles and Chris Davis, Adam Jones, and Nick Markakis added home runs (Toronto leads the series 1-0).

Twins 6 v Tigers 7: Scott Diamond received the no decision as he pitched 5.2 innings and surrendered three runs on nine hits. Jose Valverde pitched a perfect ninth for his fifth save of the season and Miguel Cabrera hit his 14th home run. Josh Willingham hit two home runs for the twins. (Detroit leads the series 1-0).

Indians 12 v Red Sox 3: Ryan Dempster gave up four earned runs over three innings to suffer the loss for the Red Sox. Zach McAllister pitched five innings, gave up three runs, and earned the win for the Indians. Drew Stubbs hit two doubles and a triple for the Indians. Michael Bourn and Yan Gomes also added doubles. David Ortiz hit his eighth home run of the season for the Red Sox (Cleveland leads the series 1-0).

Angels 5 v Royals 4: Joe Blanton pitched 6.1 innings to earn the win for the Angels, allowing two runs on seven hits. Ernesto Frieri was pulled in the ninth after giving up two runs; Robert Coello earned the save. Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, Mark Trumbo, and Chris Iannetta all homered for the Angels. Chris Getz and Lorenzo Cain hit doubles for the Royals. Alcides Escobar stole his ninth base of the season(Los Angeles leads the series 1-0).
