Twins and Red Sox Combine for 32 Hits

The Boston Red Sox led the Minnesota Twins 5-4 after one inning, and was losing 11-6 after two!  The two starters, Pedro Hernandez and Allen Webster, combined to go 3.2 innings allowing 13 hits and 14 runs to score, as each allowed 2 home runs.  Ryan Doumit hit a two run shot in the first inning and Pedro Florimon Jr. hit a solo bomb in the second.  Jonny Gomes hit a grand slam in the bottom of the first and Shane Victorino followed that up with a solo blast in the bottom of the second.  Gomes finished the game with 5 RBI, Florimon picked up 3.  Doumit picked up 3 more hits.  The Twins won the game 15-8.

Felix Doubront pitched in long relief for the Sox, going 5.1 innings, but allowed 12 more hits and 6 more runs.  Joe Mauer had 3 hits, 2 doubles, and scored 3 times.  Justin Morneau had 2 hits, a double, 3 RBI and scored once.  Trevor Plouffe added 3 hits, 3 RBI and 2 runs.  Oswaldo Arcia picked up 3 more hits and raised his average to .300.

Dustin Pedroia had 3 hits, including his 7th double and scored twice.

Mike Minor improved to 4-2 as the Braves beat the Reds 7-2.  Jordan Schafer, Andrelton Simmons and Dan Uggla each had multi hit games.  Uggla hit two solo home runs.  Juan Francisco hit a grand slam.  Simmons managed 4 hits, but did not drive in a run or score a run.

Zack Cozart and Jay Bruce each hit solo dingers.  I still don't understand why Cozart hits second for Cincinnati.  He has a .217 BA and a .252 OBP.

Chris Tillman has now won his last 3 starts and has looked sharp in his last 6 with a 2.92 ERA.  He is worth adding to your pitching rotation at this point.  Jim Johnson shut down the Royals in the 9th picking up his 13th save.  J.J. Hardy hit a two run homer for the Orioles.

Alex Gordon and Mike Moustakas hit homers for Kansas City.  Moustakas picked up 3 hits but it still struggling, so keep him on your bench if you even still own him.

Felix Hernandez gave up a run in the bottom of the 1st inning before shutting out the Pirates for 7, picking up his 5th win of the season.  Tom Wilhelmsen picked up save #9 and his ERA is now 0.60.  He has not allowed a run to score since April 5, his second appearance of the season.

Jesus Montero hit his 3rd homer of the year but he, like many catchers, is struggling at the moment.  Keep him on the bench.

Justin Masterson and the Cleveland Indians are lucky to have won last night, after a controversial play call in the top of the 9th inning.  Down by a run, Adam Rosales hit a DEEP fly ball, and well, just watch what took place!  Either way, Masterson picked up his 5th win of the season and Chris Perez now has 5 saves.

Nick Swisher and Carlos Santana homered for the Tribe and Santana is now the top catcher in fantasy baseball.

The Chicago Cubs are just the 2nd team to score 3 runs off Jake Westbrook and the 3rd to even score an earned run off the 35 year old veteran, but they still came up short as the Cardinals won 5-4.  As the story has not changed all season long, the Cubbies bullpen blew it for Carlos Villanueva as the Cardinals tied it in the 7th off James Russell and took the lead in the 8th off Michael BowdenEdward Mujica earned his 9th save for St. Louis.

Jon Jay, Carlos Beltran and Nate Schierholtz each had 2 RBI.  Beltran and Anthony Rizzo each picked up 3 hits.

Matt Carpenter added his 12th double, walked twice and scored twice.  He is slowly reminding me of David Eckstein.

Don't look now, but the Tampa Bay Rays are 10th in the league in runs scored, 6th in the American League!  If their pitching staff ever gets it going, they could easily make a run at the Red Sox or at least the Wild Card.  They scored 10 runs in support of Matt Moore last night against the Blue Jays, as Moore improved to 6-0.  Ricky Romero couldn't get two outs in the first inning last night before being pulled.  What the hell happened to you!?  We miss you!

Edwin Encarnacion hit his 10th home run, Evan Longoria hit #8 and Kelly Johnson hit his fifth.

Johnson has raised his average from .193 to .283 in just 10 games.  The longer he keeps hitting, the longer Wil Myers stays in the minors!

James Loney picked up 2 more hits, hitting .385 and added his 11th double.  The Dodgers must be like....WHAT?!!?

In what was probably the most boring game of the season, the Miami Marlins lost to the San Diego Padres 1-0 in a 9 hit game.  Jason Marquis and Ricky Nolasco combined for 15 innings, 12 strike outs and just 9 hits.  Marquis improved to 4-2 with a 3.48 ERA and he was our streaming pitcher of the day!  The game lasted just 2 hours and 20 minutes.

The fans really got their monies worth, all 16, 730 of them!

There were even less people at the Angels-Astros game to see Houston beat Los Angeles, AGAIN!  The Angels are now just 1 game better than the Astros.  Bud Norris went 8 strong innings, winning his 4th start and Jose Veras picked up his 4th save.  There were just 12,906 fans in attendance.

Josh Hamilton's solo home run was the only run the Angels scored.  It was his 3rd of the year.  Chris Carter hit his 8th home run for the Astros.

The San Francisco Giants won in walk off fashion, again, as Andres Torres scored Buster Posey with a single in the bottom of the 10th.  Barry Zito was in line for the win after 7 strong innings of 1 run ball, but Sergio Romo blew the save, as Chase Utley and Delmon Young drove in runs in the top of the 9th.

Hunter Pence hit his 7th home run of the season.

Jordan Zimmermann silenced the Tigers bats over 7 innings, surrendering just an RBI single to Miguel Cabrera.  Zimmermann struck out 7, picking up his 6th win.  Bryce Harper homered and drove in 2 runs for the Nationals.  It was his 10th home run.  Rafael Soriano saved his 11th game.

Jake Peavy held the Mets to just a run over 6.2 innings in his return, and now has 4 wins.  With an 0 for 4 night, John Buck is down to .236 batting average.

Alejando de Aza & Alex Rios each homered and Rios & Conor Gillaspie each had 2 RBI.

Lucas Duda hit his 7th home run, but struck out 3 times.

Derek Holland managed to escape 10 hits by the Brewers over 7 innings, improving to 3-2.  He only allowed 1 earned run and his ERA is now 2.54.  Joe Nathan saved his 9th game.

Ian Kinsler, Elvis Andrus, Adrian Beltre and Mitch Moreland combined for 10 of the Rangers 12 hits and all 4 runs scored.  Moreland hit his 6th homer and Kinsler hit his 7th.

With 3 hits last night, Aramis Ramirez is 4 for 11 with a double and a home run in 3 games since returning.

Kyle Lose is now 1-4 as a Brewer but he ERA is in the mid 3s so it not because he isn't trying.  He has received 1 or less runs of support in 5 of his 7 starts.

Vernon Wells hits a two run homer in the 1st inning and scored the game winning run in the 9th as the Yankees beat the Rockies 3-2.  Mariano Rivera picked up save #12.

Todd Helton hit a 2 run home run.

Clayton Kershaw held the Diamondbacks to just 5 hits over 7 innings, and the bats manged 7 hits over 8 innings off Wade Miley.  The thing is, Paul Goldschmidt hit his 9th home run in the 6th innings, a two run bomb.  He drove in all 3 DBacks runs and is now the top first baseman in fantasy baseball.

Gerardo Parra and A.J. Pollack hit their 11th and 12th doubles of the season,  and Heath Bell earned his 3rd save, as J.J. Putz has landed on the DL.  Miley is now 3-1 with an ERA under 3.
