A.J. Burnett Signs with Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies signed A.J. Burnett today to a one year $16 mil deal.  He joins Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, Kyle Kendrick and most likely Miguel Gonzalez in the Phillies rotation.  Burnett resurrected his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates the last two seasons going 26-21 with a 3.41 ERA.  This was following 3 rough seasons with the New York Yankees in which he was just 35-36 with a 4.79 ERA.  Staying in the National League will help, but Burnett now returns to a ballpark that is home run friendly.

Burnett gave up 81 home runs in 98 starts at Yankee stadium.  25 more than he 3 seasons in Toronto and 15 more than his 7 seasons with the Marlins!  I would fully expect to see Burnett's ERA rise again between 3.75 and 4.00.
