Daily Fantasy - Start Yovani Gallardo

The Milwaukee Brewers own the best record in baseball at 11-4, and their pitching staff has played a large part in that. Opposing teams have scored just 40 runs (33 earned) on Milwaukee, which gives them the best ERA in the MLB at 2.17. Tonight, Yovani Gallardo will matchup with the Pittsburgh Pirates Edinson Volquez again (same matchup as their last start). Gallardo left the previous game with a ND, lasting 6 innings, striking out 6 Bucs, and allowed just 2 earned runs. Those are the only runs Gallardo has allowed this season over 18.2 innings pitched.

It's hard to imagine, but Gallardo is now in his 8th MLB season, and is just 28 years old! He has made 182 starts for the Brewers in his career and is 30 games over .500 with 83 wins and just 53 losses, a 3.68 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. Prior to last season's mess (4.19 ERA, only season ERA above 3.84), Gallardo had 4 straight seasons of 200+ strikeouts.

The run support hasn't been there for Gallardo, but the Brewers swept the 1st 3 game series between the two teams.

My favorite part about his history vs the Pirates is that he has more strikeouts (50) than hits allowed (48).

Baseball is a game of adjustments. Yovani Gallardo is learning how to be effective with declined stuff, and in a pure baseball sense, that’s beautiful to watch. Even if it is unexpected. - FanGraphs
