Monday Night Glory Double-Header

By halftime of Monday Night Football, fantasy owners typically know if they won their head to head matchup for the week or not.  But last night, Monday Night Football finished off Week 1 of the NFL with an exciting double-header which left a lot to be desired.

The Detroit Lions dominated the New York Giants to kickoff Monday Night Football and halfway through the 1st quarter, Calvin Johnson had already caught 2 TD passes from Matthew Stafford to put the Lions up 14, including this 67 yarder:

Megatron would finish with 7 receptions for 164 yards and 2 touchdowns, good for the top WR of Week 1. Stafford completed 22 of his 32 passes for 346 yards and 2 scores making him the 3rd highest scoring QB of the week.  Golden Tate and Reggie Bush would catch 6 pieces each and Tate went for 93 yards.  Bush totaled just 64 yards, including 15 rushing.  Joique Bell handled the load on the ground with 15 attempts and picked up 51 yards and a TD.

Detroit will have a tougher Week 2 opponent in the Carolina Panthers

For the Giants, Eli Manning was just awful, averaging 4.9 yards per attempt, and completed just 18 of 33 passes for 163 yards, 1 TD and 2 INT.  Larry Donnell led the team in targets (8), receptions (5) yards (56) and he also caught a touchdown.  Victor Cruz caught just 2 of his 6 targets for 24 yards and it looks like it is going to be a long year for Cruz owners, who on average used the 41st pick to draft him as a high end WR2.  Jerrel Jernigan was target one more time than Cruz.  He and Rashad Jennings caught 4 passes each, with Jennings doubling Jernigan's yards with 50.  Jennings also rushed for 46 yards on 16 attempts and scored on a goalline carry.  He might be the lone Giants player you can trust on a weekly basis.

The Giants will get to travel to Arizona to take on the Cardinals in Week 2

The second game of the double-header featured the Arizona Cardinals and San Diego Chargers. Carson Palmer led the Cardinals to a comeback victory with a 4th quarter TD to preseason standout John Brown. Palmer finished with 304 yards, completed 24 of his 37 passes and threw a TD pass to Stepfan Taylor to start the comeback earlier in the final quarter.  He finished as the 6th best QB in Week 1.  Michael Floyd led the team with 7 targets, 5 receptions and 119 receiving yards.    Larry Fitzgerald, however, caught just 1 of his 4 targets for 22 yards.

Andre Ellington was rumored to be out for 4-6 weeks, yet he played last night and totaled 87 yards, including 27 on 5 receptions.  Palmer and Ellington each lost a fumble.

Fitzgerald should get back on track while Palmer and Floyd continue to have success against the New York Giants in Week 2

The San Diego Chargers totaled just 290 yards, led by Philip Rivers 238 passing yards.  He completed 21 of his 36 attempts and threw a TD to Malcom Floyd.  He also threw an interception. Antonio Gates led the team with 10 targets, 6 receptions and 81 yards.  Keenan Allen struggled against Patrick Peterson, and caught 5 passes for just 37 yards on 9 targets.

Ryan Mathews led the Chargers with 12 carries but gained just 40 yards.  He did score a TD. Danny Woodhead got 6 carries and 1 reception, totaling just 11 yards.

Things wont get much better in Week 2 when San Diego takes on the Seattle Seahawks
