Shootout In Atlanta

  • Matt Ryan led the Falcons to a 37-34 OT win against the New Orleans Saints. Ryan lit up the Saints secondary, going 31/43 for 448 yards and 3 touchdowns
    • Julio Jones led the Falcons with 7 catches and 116 yards.  Roddy White caught 5 balls for 72 yards, including a 2-yard touchdown
  • Drew Brees tried his best to match Ryan's numbers but came up a little short. Still, he finished 29/42 for 333 yards with a touchdown and interception
    • Rookie Brandin Cooks made his NFL debut and caught 7 passes for 71 yards and a touchdown.  Jimmy Graham caught a team high 8 passes for 82 yards.  Marques Colston led the Saints in yards with 110 on 5 receptions but his fumble in OT cost the Saints the game

Air It Out

  • Ben Roethlisberger threw for 365 yards with a touchdown and an interception in a win over the Browns. Antonio Brown caught 5 balls for 116 yards, which included a 35 yard touchdown. Markus Wheaton nearly reached the century mark, but finished with 97 yards on 5 catches
  • Julius Thomas caught a hat trick in the 1st half during the Broncos beatdown of the Colts on Sunday Night Football  
  • Allen Hurns had a monster first half for the Jaguars and he finished the game with 4 catches for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns
  • Jeremy Maclin gave the Eagles a lead in the 4th quarter with a 68 yard touchdown reception from Nick Foles
  • Both Andy Dalton and Joe Flacco went over the 300 yard mark in a Bengals 23-16 win over the Ravens. Dalton threw for 301 yards, including a 77 yard touchdown to A.J. Green. Flacco threw the ball 62 times for 345 yards in the loss. Steve Smith, in his debut with Baltimore, caught a 80 yard touchdown

  • Jay Cutler threw for 349 yards in a losing effort against the Buffalo Bills. Brandon Marshall and Martellus Bennett each caught 8 balls and scored a touchdown
  • Green, Smith, Jones, Brown, Colston, Thomas and Hurns were the only player to gain 100+ yards through the air
  • Dennis Pitta and Pierre Garcon were the only players with double digit receptions 

Ground and Pound

  • Knowshon Moreno benefited from a Lamar Miller early fumble as he saw extended playing time and picked up where he left off with the Broncos. On 24 carries Moreno ran for 134 yards and a touchdown
  • Arian Foster proved he's going to be a work horse this year as he led the NFL with 27 carries.  He gained 103 yards
  • Rookie Terrance West took advantage of Ben Tate exiting with an injury as he ran for 100 yards on 16 carries in his NFL debut. Isaiah Crowell ran for 2 touchdowns
  • Le'Veon Bell had a huge game for the Steelers as he ran for 109 yards and a touchdown and added 88 yards on 6 receptions
  • Chris Ivory made the most of his 10 carries and finished with 102 yards, thanks to a long 71 yard touchdown

  • Although Cordarrelle Patterson is not a running back, he had 3 carries for 102 yards and a 67 yard touchdown
  • Mark Ingram ran for 2 short yardage touchdowns in the Saints loss
  • Moreno, Demarco Murray, Bell, Foster, Ivory, Patterson, and Terrance West were the only RBs to rush for 100+ yards.
  • Matt Forte led all RBs with 8 receptions.  Bell gained one more yard, 88, on 6 receptions.

Defense Wins Championships

  • The Houston Texans defense led by J.J. Watt, shut down the Washington Redskins offense. Houston gave up 6 points, sacked Robert Griffin III 3 times, recovered 2 fumbles, blocked an extra point and blocked a point and returned it for a touchdown. Watt had a sack, hit Griffin 4 other times, had 2 tackles for a loss, recovered a fumble, deflected a pass, and blocked an extra point

  • The Minnesota Vikings also only allowed 6 points against the St. Louis Rams, had 5 sacks and 2 interceptions, 1 of those they returned for a touchdown. They also forced 3 fumbles but failed to recover them
  • Alex Smith was dominated by the Tennessee Titans defense, as he was sacked 4 times and was picked off 3 times in a 26-10 loss

Vulture Touchdowns
