Jimmy Butler's Fantasy Basketball Value

Jimmy Butler, yes that Jimmy Butler of the Chicago Bulls, leads the NBA preseason in scoring.  He has been super efficient, shooting 60% from the field (although just 79% from the FT line) and is a +59 in 145 minutes of action.  Only his new teammate Pau Gasol (+73) and Celtics center Kelly Olynyk (+64) have a better +/-.  His 93 points has come on just 48 shot attempts!  There are only 11 other players to have scored 60 points with 48 shot attempts or less, and only Steven Adams (76.9%) and Timofey Mozgov (65.8%) have a higher FG%.  Butler's aggressiveness with the ball has led to a preseason high 43 free throw attempts, 12 more than the next guy, Andre Drummond.

Butler's first game of the preseason wasn't pretty, shooting 1-7, but he was able to knock down 5 free throws, leading to 7 points, and added 7 rebounds and 5 assists.  He followed that up with an 18 points night (7-9 and 4-4) with just 3 rebounds and 0 assists.  In the Bulls 1st win of the preseason, Butler knocked down 6 of his 10 field goals, and added 6 free throws for 18 more points, grabbed 7 rebounds and handed out 4 assists and had 3 steals!  In the Bulls 4th preseason game, Jimmy hit 7 of his 8 shots, and made all 7 free throws for 21 points while grabbing 6 boards and adding 2 assists and 2 steals.  And finally, in a 38 point 4th quarter, the Bulls beat the Hawks on Butler's buzzer beater, capping a 29 point night thanks to 12 free throws (16 attempts).

Can we trust Jimmy Butler in Fantasy Basketball?  He was a top 100 player last season, shooting 39% on 10 shots per game. and is currently a 6th round pick (76th overall, 38th Guard). However, Butler can fill a stat sheet, and that makes him a valuable option.  The return of Derrick Rose should make Butler a better player.

Depending on your roster, a Joe Johnson, Arron Afflalo, or Kevin Martin might be more valuable as they are more consistent scoring options or Kyle Korver who can boost your teams 3ptm. Tyreke Evans ADP is right around Butler's and can provide similar all around statistics.
