Tigers Acquire Alfredo Simon in Trade with Reds

The Detroit Tigers have found their 5th and final starter to fill out their starting rotation.  Alfredo Simon is headed to Detroit via trade with the Cincinnati Reds.  Simon will turn 34 this year, but won 15 of his 32 starts for the Reds last season, after not starting a game since the 2011 season!  Simon had a career low 5.8 K/9 in 2014, but as a 5th starter, you can do much worse.  Simon was an All-Star last season.

The Cincinnati Reds trade Mat Latos to the Miami Marlins.

If and when Latos is also traded, depending on what comes back in return, the Reds pitching staff will feature Johnny Cueto, Homer Bailey, Mike Leake and then any mix of Tony Cingrani /David Holmberg/Dylan Axelrod.  Safe to assume there will be some pitcher(s) added via free agency.

The Tigers have traded Doug Fister, Drew Smyly and Rick Porcello, and will see Max Scherzer sign with a new team soon. They also traded Robbie Ray for Shane Greene and replaced Austin Jackson with Yoenis Cespedes. As much as they look the same to the naked eye with Justin Verlander, Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez this is a very different Tigers team.

The deal has been announced. Jonathan Crawford and Eugenio Suarez are the return to the Reds. - MLB Trade Rumors
