Miguel Montero Traded to the Cubs

The Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamonadbacks have a greed to a trade that will land catcher Miguel Montero in Chicago.  Montero will split catching duties with Welington Castillo.  Montero own a .256 BA against righties, and just .198 vs LHP.  Castillo hit .301 against lefties and just .216 vs RHP.

Cubs Sign Jon Lester

Montero will turn 32 before the MLB All-Star break, has 3 years left on his contract, and is owed $40 mil. He earned that contract after excellent seasons in 2011 and 2012. After hitting 36 doubles, 18 home runs and driving in 88 runs while hitting .282, Montero followed that up with 25 doubles, 15 homers, 88 RBI and a .286 BA.  He has just 24 home runs and 114 RBI over the last 2 seasons, hitting .230 and .241.  He hurt himself in fantasy baseball, but this move is a good MLB transaction.

The Diamondbacks will have to turn to Tuffy Gosewisch, who hit .225 over 129 ABs last season, trade for Dioner Navarro of the Blue Jays, or sign Geovany Soto.
