Atlanta Falcons Release Steven Jackson

The Atlanta Falcons have released RB Steven Jackson.  Jackson spent the last two seasons with the Falcons and gained just 1250 total rushing yards.  This after 8 straight 1,000 yard seasons as a member of the St. Louis Rams.  He did score 6 rushing touchdowns in each season as a Falcon, which was more than he scored in 4 of his last 6 seasons with the Rams  He disappeared from the passing attack.  He will turn 32 before the start of the 2015 NFL season.

SJax has 301 more rushing yards than the next active back, Frank Gore. He is 5th in All-Purpose yards behind Steve Smith, Darren Sproles, Wes Welker and Josh Cribbs. Obviously, this includes punt and kick return yards.

The Falcons do not have an every down back on the roster, but Devonta Freeman would be the first guy to get a chance should the team not go after any free agents or spend an early draft pick on a running back.
