Twin Towers Rising in Utah

The Utah Jazz traded Enes Kanter to the Oklahoma City Thunder at the NBA Trade Deadline, which paved the way for Rudy Gobert to take over the C position, full time.  Gobert's play forced Kanter's camp to demand a trade and Utah's FO was happy to oblige.  Now it's time for Gobert and Derrick Favors to help lead Gordon Hayward's Utah Jazz back to NBA greatness.

Favors was sent to the Jazz in the Deron Williams deal with the New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets.

February 23, 2011: Traded by the New Jersey Nets with Devin Harris, cash, a 2011 1st round draft pick (Enes Kanter was later selected) and a 2013 1st round draft pick (Gorgui Dieng was later selected) to the Utah Jazz for Deron Williams.

Dieng was a draft day trade, along with Shabazz Muhammad to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Trey Burke.

Gobert was also acquired during the 2013 NBA Draft, in a deal with the Denver Nuggets for Erick Green.

Gobert and Derrick Favors have started 7 games together, and during that time, they have held the San Antonio Spurs, Portland Trail Blazers and Chicago Bulls to season low point totals!

Jazz (97) - Bulls (77)

Back on January 7th, with Kanter still on the roster (DNP), Gobert and Favors got the start on the road against the Chicago Bulls.  They held Joakim Noah, Pau Gasol and Taj Gibson to just 29 points (11-26 FG) and 19 rebounds.  Utah's bigs totaled 31 points (13-23 FG) and 25 rebounds.  Gobert had 5 blocks. The Bulls shot 33% from the field.

The Jazz have defeated the Blazers and Spurs in their two contests since the All-Star break.

Jazz (92) - Blazers (76)

Against Portland, Gobert recorded another 5 blocks.  He only scored 4 points but  Favors added 16 points and together they grabbed 16 rebounds.  Their defense limited LaMarcus Aldridge, Robin Lopez, Chris Kaman and Meyers Leonard to just 28 points (10-32 FG) and 18 rebounds.  The Trail Blazers shot 36% from the field.

Jazz (90) - Spurs (81)

Last night, the Jazz held the San Antonio Spurs to just 81 points and Gobert sent a Tim Duncan shot into the stands!

Gobert only scored 7 points but he grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked 2 other shots and had 2 steals. Favors had a double double with 14/10 and added 3 steals.  The Spurs shot 40% from the field.

The Utah Jazz are building something special and with Hayward and Favors locked up, Gobert on the up and up, Trey Burke and Dante Exum developing and the return of rookie Rodney Hood and Alec Burks returning next season, a lottery pick in a deep draft class and whole bunch of future picks, it's a great time to be a fan!

Now if only my Knicks could do something like this....
